Safety Manager

Job Description Summary:

The Safety Manager provides support, training, and guidance to promote a safe work environment through the Company’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) objectives and programs. The Safety Manager proactively provides instruction and guidance to all levels of employees in an effort to minimize injury, motor vehicle accidents, and environmental releases. The Safety Manager supports operations in all safety and environmental training requirements.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a comprehensive Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) program and overall promotion of the Company’s HSE objectives.
  • Design and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) Manuals for Field Operations with a focus on hazard recognition and spill elimination.
  • Review and revise compliance standards for Clients Master Service Agreements (MSAs).
  • Revise the established EHS Manual for companywide Safety Policies to be utilized as a training baseline and updated compliance issues.
  • Establish the Management and Supervisor’s Safety Committee to address incident strategies enhancing our Behavioral Based Safety Program (BBSP).
  • Instill a companywide “Safety as a Culture” attitude for employee buy-in through recognition programs, training and educational guidelines.
  • Create and promote safety awareness utilizing the Field Audit to inspect and review potential or existing hazards and hazard elimination with employees in the workplace.
  • Conduct incident investigation using Root Cause analysis to determine contributing factors, implementing corrective actions.
  • Present Safety/ BBSP statistics and ongoing programs at meetings.
  • Conduct Safety meetings and inspections as required by the customer and company policy.
  • Instruct OSHA 10 Hour, ANSI H2S and First Aid/AED/CPR Certification Courses.
  • Attend Safety Meetings with the customer.
  • Conduct monthly Safety Audits/Inspections to ensure State and Federal compliance for a safe working environment, reducing accidents and increasing productivity.
  • Maintain detailed Safety reports, environmental files, and data entry.
  • Facilitate monthly Tool Box Safety meetings and New Hire Safety Orientations.
  • Perform accident investigation, documentation, and act as the insurance/WC liaison.
  • Oversee hazardous waste spills, remediation efforts, and record related reports.
  • Determine necessary PPE, ensuring adequate Safety equipment, using Hazard Assessment techniques.
  • Provide daily Safety guidance to management, employees, and vendors communicating Safety alerts and maintaining required permits.
  • Ensure that Safety equipment maintenance is preformed, documented, minimum inventories are correct and in proper working condition (e.g. 4 Gas Monitors, Fire Extinguishers, PPE etc.).
  • Provide the safest working environment for all employees as possible.
  • Update ISN database as necessary.
  • Travel to work locations to coordinate the overall Safety Program with field personnel.
  • Consult with operational managers to ensure timely and effective resolution of Safety concerns.
  • Act as a resource and subject matter expert for employees in matters relating to Occupational Safety and Environmental related concerns.
  • Present safety meeting topics in a classroom and/or field environment.
  • Provide New Hire and On-the-job training.

  • Must be able to multi-task, be a team player, able to work within a group, take direction from supervisors, and exhibit follow through with great attention to detail.
  • Must be able to develop and maintain strong work relationships with team.
  • Must have effective communication skills.
  • Must be able to work independently, establish priorities and complete competing assignments within required time frames. Ability to meet deadlines and produce results under tight time constraints (e.g. Audit presentations).
  • Must be able to lift 60 lbs. and handle physically demanding work.
  • Must be able to present Safety Meetings.
  • Must be able to thoroughly use Microsoft Office programs (e.g. Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Must have working knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and other federal and state-applicable industry regulations as well as EHS Management Systems.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug & alcohol screening and participate in the random testing pool.
  • Must pass a background check and motor vehicle record check.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be eligible to drive a company vehicle in accordance to company policies.

Work Environment:

  • This job operates in an indoor and outdoor environment. Work is regularly performed in outside weather conditions, including rain and extreme cold or heat, and near moving mechanical parts. Exposure to high wind, ice, snow, wet and/or humid conditions, vibrations, and dust is expected.
  • Exposure to noise levels requiring the use of hearing protection.
  • Prolonged sitting, standing, walking.
  • Ability to individually lift 60 lbs.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. This position regularly requires long hours and be willing to travel to ND or other locations as job duties demand.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Valid Driver’s License

Education & Experience

  • Associates Degree and at least 2 years experience as a Safety Manager/HSE professional (Oil and Gas preferred)
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar recognized Occupational Safety & Health Certification(s) preferred
