Position Summary:


The Safety Manager is responsible for implementing and overseeing safe work practices and conditions for all Tri-City Electrical Contractors, Inc. employees as well as identifying and communicating safety concerns and general observations to employees, other trade companies and the controlling contractor/job host. Responsibilities also include conducting and overseeing all safety-related training for Tri-City Electrical Contractors, Inc. employees and subcontractors.

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:


  • Ensures that all policies, programs, and daily operations comply with all local, state, and federal laws and procedures
  • Implement and enforce the Safety Health and Environmental Program (SHEP)
  • Help develop, maintain, and implement safety and job training policies and procedures
  • Deliver or oversee training on the job and in the classroom for safety and technical training
  • Become comfortable and proficient in all training environments
  • Be effective in communicating programs to enhance and encourage overall employee safety awareness and knowledge
  • Maintain a presence in the field and build rapport with field team members and other trades, controlling contractors, and hosts
  • Conduct periodic safety inspections and hazard assessments, and assign responsibility and deadlines to correct safety issues that are identified
  • Oversee maintenance of OSHA documentation, including SDS binders and chemical lists
  • Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices and develop hazard control practices and programs
  • Visit project sites randomly and upon request to maintain Tri-City Safety Standards and OSHA compliance
  • Investigate accidents, near misses, and/or safety violations on project sites to determine trends and develop procedures to avoid recurrence
  • Be proficient in training for all onsite equipment and required proficiencies
  • Assist HR with Workers’ Compensation investigations and fact-gathering related to injuries as needed
  • Forward all site-related training information to the Safety/Training Director
  • Assist the Safety/Training Director with technical trade-related training
  • Provide feedback on bids for safety costs and required labor hours to conduct safety procedures
  • Maintain approved driver’s list for all Divisions
  • Join and participate in organizations focused on safety, training, and construction as directed
  • Facilitate training such as, but not limited to, notifying employees of classes, securing rooms, and getting refreshments
  • Respond immediately to any OSHA inspection and remain on site until the OSHA inspector leaves, even if the inspection has nothing to do with Tri-City Electrical Contractors, Inc.
  • Become involved with other safety and training people to network for the betterment of the industry
  • Provide safety training at Superintendents’ meetings
  • Track training documentation for all Tri-City Electrical Contractors, Inc. employees and subcontractors
  • Assist the Safety/Training Director with technical trade-related training
  • Remain current with developing safety issues
  • Actively look for professional continuing education, especially train-the-trainer opportunities
  • Act as a resource for other contractors as directed and requested
  • Gather On-site OSHA, safety, and worker’s compensation investigations and information as requested
  • Oversee Tri-City Electrical Contractors, Inc. property for safety and health-related problems
  • Help oversee the Corporate Clothing store
  • Assist and promote the apprenticeship effort
  • Assist with school-to-work programs by checking on-site mentoring
  • Assist with/present new hire orientation
  • Proper maintenance of records and completion of detailed and accurate reports
  • Maintain current OSHA certifications

Experience and Education:

Required:

  • Three to five (3–5) years, high voltage electrical safety experience required with knowledge of associated safety standards (OSHA, NFPA 70E) or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Demonstrable knowledge of basic electricity fundamentals
  • Minimum training in OSHA 500 and OSHA 501
  • Trained in the use of PSC, Hilti, Ramset, Cadweld, Scaffold, First Aid, and CPR
  • Ability to understand and interpret system one-line drawings and operation of electrical equipment and testing devices
  • Excellent ability to review, organize and analyze information
  • Possess appropriate business-wiring skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of products (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language at a minimum twelfth (12th) grade level
  • Must possess a valid Florida Driver's license in good standing to meet the company's driving requirements

  • OSHA 30 Industry
  • OSHA 30 Industry Trainer

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions within the company.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites.
  • This job operates in an indoor professional office or job site environment. May work outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
  • Employees may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. In addition, the employee may occasionally be exposed to various extreme conditions at different work locations.
  • Employees will be exposed to moderate noise (i.e., business office with computers, phones, printers, and light foot traffic).
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is occasionally active and may require standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the day.
  • Must be able to move objects that weigh 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers/printers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Position Type, Expected Hours of Work, and Travel:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work vary but equate to 40 hours per week. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.


Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
