Position Summary:

This position will lead the organization by providing support and develop procedures that control and reduce injury and health exposures, as well as control environmental impact. This position will ensure compliance with all federal and state health, safety, and environmental requirements.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure compliance with MSHA and OSHA requirements;
  • Facilitate monthly safety meetings;
  • Lead investigations following health and safety incidents;
  • Lead and implement strategic direction for Safety Department;
  • Direct Health and Safety programs to meet Company and regulatory requirements;
  • Lead risk assessments to reduce injury potential;
  • Complete hiring of both salaried and hourly staff for the Safety Department;
  • Establish standard operating procedures for the Safety Departments;
  • Promote continuous awareness of safety and health requirements to drive safe behavior of employees while safely meeting construction and production goals;
  • Act as the Company representative while dealing with governmental agencies, business and trade groups, employees, and the public on safety matters;
  • Work with leadership team to empower employees to take ownership of safety activities;
  • Develop policies and procedures to eliminate injuries;
  • Conduct safety audits;
  • Manage worker's compensation program;
  • Establish budgets for construction, operations, and capital projects.

  • Computer proficiency and ability to use Word, Excel, and financial software to meet goals;
  • Creativity and problem solving skills;
  • Maintenance and operations oriented with an eye for continuous improvement;
  • Ability to coordinate and manage projects;
  • Must be able to manage budgets, schedules, and operations staff;
  • Experience writing policies and procedures;
  • Ability to clearly communicate goals and vision of the organization to all levels within the organization.



Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene or related discipline;
  • Knowledge of Federal and State regulations;
  • Six Sigma/Lean manufacturing preferred;
  • MSHA Certification required.


Experience :
  • 5-10 years' progressive experience in Health and Safety leadership;
  • Preferred candidate will have construction or mining experience.
