JOB SUMMARY :

The Safety Coordinator is responsible for maintenance of informational databases, organization of documents and records assisting in formatting policy and procedures. Project management to include: gathering information for required metrics, maintain customer relationships by responding to inquiries; documenting actions. This is an on-site position based in our Mendota Heights, MN corporate office.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Assists with ownership of safety practices in the work environment.
  • Assists with Management in establishing a strong Safety culture, reflected by positive safety metrics and strong engagement scores.
  • Assists in maintaining and updating existing safety procedures and implementation of new policies while working with the safety team to review and improve safety practices. Acts as a resource for managers, supervisors and team leads who are responsible for carrying out safety and risk management initiatives
  • Assists with OSHA compliance, federal and state regulations to provide for employee safety.
  • Involved as a team member of the various Safety Committees, responsible for assisting in the implementation of approved safety initiatives.
  • Maintains safety training records and other documentation.
  • Participates in daily, weekly, and monthly safety meetings.
  • Assist with the ordering and maintaining of “PPE” inventory.
  • Work with third party compliance portals to assure compliance with customers within the portal (ISN, Avetta).
  • Draft and distribute monthly safety newsletter to include topical subjects and reviews of recent incidents and near misses
  • Maintain records of facilities inspections, corrective actions, training documentation, and document control
  • Assist in the development and implementation of safety programs, policies, and procedures in multiple areas of the field.
  • Assist in the development and conduct the training required for all employees in all areas of health and safety standards
  • Ensures monthly reports are forwarded to Safety Committees in a timely manner outlining OSHA injury and accident statistics as well as Local Safety Committee minutes, safety observations and special project updates.
  • Keep records of safety-related incidents and propose corrective actions
  • Receive telephone calls and relay conversation and pertinent messages to appropriate department personnel when out of office maintaining accuracy, clarity and confidentiality
  • Establish rapport with internal and external customers, the department is in contact with on a daily basis
  • Assess the various needs and purposes of our internal customers and direct them to the proper sources in order to address their concerns
  • Develops task listing for job hazard analysis program.
  • Develops departmental Safety Reports and Bulletins, providing status and progress updates on initiatives and measures tracked as part of departmental safety programs
  • Ensure the proper filing of pertinent documents. Ensure validity, completeness, accuracy and confidentiality of these records
  • Perform active participation in meetings and conferences and take down relevant notes during the process
  • Produces information by transcribing, formatting, inputting, editing, retrieving, copying, and transmitting text, data, and graphics
  • Maintains customer confidence and protects operation by keeping information confidential
  • Prepares reports by collecting information
  • Provides historical reference by utilizing filing and retrieval systems
  • Responds to customer inquiries by understanding inquiry reviewing previous inquiries and responses; gathering and researching information; assembling and forwarding information; verifying customer’s understanding of information and answer
  • Records customer inquiries by documenting inquiry and response in customers’ accounts
  • Provides information by answering questions and requests
  • Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assigning administrative projects; expediting work results
  • Accomplishes customer service and organization mission by completing related results as needed
  • Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

The qualifications listed below are representative of the elements required to perform the job successfully; however, in some cases, an equivalent combination of Education, Training, Certifications and Experience may meet the job qualifications.

Education, Training, Certifications:

  • Associate’s and/or bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, required.

Experience, Knowledge, Skill Requirements:

  • 3+ years of safety experience, strongly preferred.

Communication Skills:

  • Must have the ability to effectively read, write and communicate in English with employees, customers, and board of directors. Many audiences must be considered, including alignment among multiple stakeholders.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) a plus but not required.

Systems and Software Skills:

  • Ability to operate a computer and use Microsoft Office, required.

Other Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record, required.
  • Must be able to comply with Summit’s Drug and Alcohol policy and Background screening requirements, which may also include customer specific requirements based on contractual agreement.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit and stand for long periods. Employee will occasionally be required to drive, bend, kneel, balance, lift <20lb, walk, stand, ascend/descend stairs, reach above and below shoulders, stoop, and twist.

Work Environment:

Employee will consistently be required to work indoors in an office or remote setting, work alone and with others. Employee will occasionally be required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment, as required by company safety policies. Employee will rarely be required to travel.
