Unity Shelter, Inc. is a provider of basic needs support, emergency shelter, and transitional housing to those experiencing homelessness in Corvallis and Benton County. Creating a safe space for people to rest, recover, and connect with supportive services is central to our mission.

Position: SafePlace Service Navigator

Reports to: SafePlace Program Manager

Hours: 20 hrs, flexible schedule, some evening and weekend availability

Pay Rate: $17-20/hr DOE

Position Summary: This position manages the SafePlace intake phone and waitlist and initiates the intake process with potential participants. The SafePlace Service Navigator is the main point of contact for potential SafePlace participants. This position works closely with the SafePlace Intake Coordinator, potential participants, staff, leadership, and community partners to determine eligibility in the SafePlace program. This position requires outreach to people experiencing homelessness and meeting people where they are.

Location: Multiple Locations

Position Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with SafePlace Intake Coordinator to ensure timely follow-up with potential participants
  • Maintain intake phone line, referrals, and prioritized waitlist
  • Conduct basic needs questionnaire and coordinated entry
  • Use Microsoft and Google applications to track, maintain, and contact potential participants
  • Maintain organized files and paperwork of SafePlace related documentation
  • Regularly join the Street Outreach and Response Team (SORT) to meet and maintain contact with potential participants
  • Work independently and collaboratively with staff and community partners
  • Record accurate data in Unity Shelter databases (Shelterware, HMIS) including intake, documents, and coordinated entry
  • Refer individuals to alternate resources or Unity Shelter Resource Navigator as needed
  • Meet regularly with Intake Coordinator to ensure program efficacy

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Two years experience working in social service environment with direct service experience, preferred
  • Any combination of education and experience which provides the required level of knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Ability to multitask and stay organized
  • Ability to communicate openly and effectively with participants, staff, and community partners
  • Experience using Microsoft and Google applications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Consistent, time-conscious, reliable, friendly, appropriate communication style
  • Experience inputting and maintaining accurate data in web-based databases
  • Reliable transportation
  • Knowledge of resources available in Corvallis, Benton County, and surrounding areas, preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with Trauma-Informed Care, Mental Health First Aid, homelessness, cultural competence and cultural humility, preferred

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
