Duties

What to Expect

  • This is an Interdisciplinary Position in that various specialties in the social and behavioral sciences can provide the necessary background to successfully perform the aspects of the job. The exact series of the position will be determined by the background and area of qualification of the employee selected for the position. The position is classifiable in either one of the following series: Psychologist, NF-0180-04 or Social Worker, NF-0185-04.
  • Performs a variety of professional tasks related to substance misuse service planning, community referrals and consultations, and in-service training.
  • Performs screening and assessment, conducts education and non-medical counseling for active duty military and their eligible family members as space permits.
  • Tier I providers must perform all clinical duties under the clinical supervision of a tier III clinical supervisor and maintain a plan of supervision.
  • Coordinates with community referral resources in the development of specific treatment programs. Interviews individuals and family members to explore and analyze factors influencing personality development and family structure in relation to the development of symptomatic behavior patterns and complicated interpersonal problems.
  • Will be required to obtain a clearance at the Tier 3 level to satisfy IT Level II designation access and enter information to the Alcohol and Drug Management Information Tracking System (ADMITS), if access is to ADMITS is required to fulfill the requirements of this position. Appointment and continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of the security investigation.
  • This position is identified as a Test Designated Position (TDP). The incumbent is subject to random drug testing because duties must be performed with a high level of productivity, reliability and judgment to prevent adversely affecting personnel safety, and causing risk/damage to government property, and/or significant adverse impact to day-to-day operations.

What are we looking for?

  • Must possess a master’s degree from a college or university with a program nationally accredited in: social work or psychology, marriage and family therapy, clinical counseling, or in a related behavioral health field.
  • Ability to obtain supervision that will be applied towards their independent licensure under an approved supervision plan as required by the state licensing board from which they are seeking licensure. Hiring program does not guarantee program supervision hours will be applicable towards state licensure. Licensure shall be completed within a 36 month period from the date of hire.
  • Experience working or serving as a volunteer or intern in the field of substance abuse strongly recommended.
  • Must achieve certified substance abuse counselor (Alcohol and Drug Counselor II, International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium substance abuse counselor certification, or state equivalent) within 36 months from the date of hire.
  • Strong case management skills to include: maintain accurate and timely documentation of records and case files is preferred. Ensure a smooth implementation and continuum of care, develop and maintain knowledge of referral sources, collaborate and coordinate with other internal departments, outside agencies, and commanders (if indicated) to ensure that client is receiving the most appropriate services is preferred. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products is preferred. Knowledge of the military structure and the military environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of standard and accepted theories, methods, principles, practices, as well as of individual, marital, family, and group counseling.
  • Ability to teach counseling techniques for substance misuse to assist clients. Ability to review and evaluate a wide range of training aids and materials. Must be able to properly document interview findings and provide a narrative of primary presenting issues.
