We are seeking an experienced Robot Specialist

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE:

Successful candidate will operate, program, maintain, set up, optimize and troubleshoot welding robots and robot tooling for all phases of production.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE:

  • Work in a safe manner and report unsafe conditions to supervisor.
  • Review new product designs to determine fixturing and programming issues.
  • From welding and tooling designs, set parameters and program robot to safely execute the correct welds, maximizing quality and throughput.
  • Run test welds to determine accuracy and quality
  • Operate robots, train others and observe robots in operation to maintain safety, quality, and throughput.
  • Work with robot vendor to coordinate all service calls, and yearly PM’s.
  • Communicate with other shifts and departments to ensure robot issues are communicated, reviewed, and eliminated.
  • Keep work area, tools, jigs and fixtures clean and orderly.
  • Follow Douglas Dynamics, LLC rules regarding work and conduct.
  • Operate fork truck to assist in material handling needs for the robotic cells.
  • Keep robots running smoothly without stoppage or interruption to maximize run time.
  • Track use of consumables and spare parts to maintain day to day inventory levels and track use. Order parts as required to maximize uptime.
  • Use contract resources when needed to troubleshoot and recover quickly from any work stoppage related to robot, controller, and robotic welding equipment. Ensure that proper maintenance is completed.
  • Assist with fixture design, development and maintenance.
  • Learn Robot Studio programming software and use it to program parts off the robot.
  • Review programs and program cycle times to increase through put.
  • Work with engineering to improve fixturing.
  • Write Job instructions, Maintenance instructions for Robot use.
  • Review Robot operations to ensure that cycle times are maintained.
  • Determine the root cause of errors and develop countermeasures to eliminate reoccurring concerns.
  • Create and maintain Robot TPM program.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

WHAT THIS ROLE NEEDS:

  • Ability to communicate clearly with other departments regarding part requirements, quality issues and production schedules. Able to train and interact with robot operators in basic operation of loading/unloading fixtures.
  • Demonstrated understanding, knowledge, and proficiency of MIG welding with ability to establish weld settings to optimize weld quality and meet standards. Understanding of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and/or hydraulic operation of robots and fixtures. Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and basic electrical/electronic, mechanical, and hydraulic schematics. Ability to operate a variety of small hand and power tools, tool room machines, and precision measuring devices. Previous experience programming robots a plus.
  • Functional proficiency with spreadsheet/word processing programs.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Certified as a fork truck operator. Able to travel for training or to share knowledge with other locations.
  • Must have completed High school or have GED equivalency and one year of related experience and/or training. Good safety & attendance record, evaluation score of 70 or better. No warnings above a verbal. Able to read and interpret welding and design drawings. Formal robotic programming/training a plus. Knowledge of 3D CAD a plus. Demonstrate a full understanding and knowledge of MIG welding with ability to establish weld settings to optimize weld quality and meet standards. Understanding of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and/or hydraulic operations of robots and fixtures.
