Your Mission:

The Revenue Accountant plays a critical role in positioning Medidata as a leader of best-in-class accounting practices and processes. The Revenue Accountant manages multiple revenue functions as well as provides meaningful insight for financial reporting and analysis. This position requires a person with impeccable attention to detail who is comfortable managing a variety of functions while providing a high level of value to our partners across the business.

  • Analyze and consolidate large data files
  • Partner with the Commercial Accounting and Sales functions to optimize contract structure under ASC 606
  • Manage monthly and quarterly close process including monitoring, review, and analysis of revenue and reporting activity
  • Reconcile and review Balance Sheet items and prepare required adjusting entries
  • Manage accounting related to contracts and their impact to forecasting functions
  • Perform technical accounting research and prepare documentation around complex revenue recognition accounting issues
  • Assist in compliance and maintenance of control requirements
  • Review and support all team disclosures
  • Ensure compliance with key controls and accurate GAAP reporting and fulfill internal and external reporting requirements, including driving automation within our reporting functions

Your Responsibilities:

A seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of technical accounting; resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways. This job is the fully qualified, career-oriented, journey-level position. Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Networks with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise. Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments.

  • Implements controls and evaluates actions required for compliance with the company's revenue recognition accounting process, including the bookings, billings and forecasting process.
  • Performs regular and special analysis to ensure accuracy and proper revenue recognition.
  • Analyzes contracts and verifies compliance with contractual terms, fee schedules, or other formal agreements.
  • Completes all required month-end close activities including revenue reconciliation and management reporting.
  • May work with legal and sales personnel in reviewing revenue contracts to ensure adherence to company policies and resolving any revenue issues.
  • Follows control procedures and interacts with audit or other functions in the approval of product discount pricing, vendor-specific objective evidence studies and significance analysis to ensure forecasting accuracy

Your Competencies:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field is required
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in revenue recognition or similar accounting role required
  • 1-2 years public accounting audit experience (or 2-4 years of a mix of public and private experience) with a focus on revenue recognition
  • Experience at a global SaaS company preferred or enterprise software company with many multiple element arrangements preferred CPA or CPA candidate strongly preferred
  • Strong technical accounting skills and exposure to revenue recognition rules under U.S. GAAP
  • Impeccable attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and ability to multi-task on a variety of complex projects
  • Experience in researching accounting literature to resolve complex U.S. GAAP technical issues, with the ability to communicate findings and conclusions to financial and non-financial personnel
  • CPA candidate strongly preferred

The salary range posted below refers only to positions that will be physically based in New York City. As with all roles, Medidata sets ranges based on a number of factors including function, level, candidate expertise and experience, and geographic location. Pay ranges for candidates in locations other than New York City, may differ based on the local market data in that region. The base salary pay range for this position is $79,500 - $106,000.

Base pay is one part of the Total Rewards that Medidata provides to compensate and recognize employees for their work. Most sales positions are eligible for a commission on the terms of applicable plan documents, and many of Medidata's non-sales positions are eligible for annual bonuses.
