The Retail Buyer is responsible for the merchandise assortment and topline strategies to drive growth in retail stores. The buyer is a key partner in determining distribution, and promotion of footwear for DTC while achieving sales, inventory, turn, and gross margin goals.

Job Description
  • Develops seasonal assortment plans for showcasing the brand with attention to demographic profiles and geography and a keen understanding of the brand customer.
  • Analyze business performance to drive growth; review reports, analyze sales data, and make appropriate recommendations based on this data.
  • Owns the short and long-term product strategies to grow the business and brand. Input into the product creation process; and advocate for products/collections that will provide a point of difference and drive top-line sales growth.
  • Communicate category and buying strategies to cross functional and category business partners.
  • Works with retail planning to develop seasonal merchandise plans that reflect future opportunities and deficiencies. In-season assists retail planning with the OTB reforecasts of sales, markdowns, purchases, and inventory based on actual business trends and product availability.
  • Determines store initial seasonal distributions by utilizing store volume rankings and merchandise classifications by understanding how to merge historical statistical data with current trends and forecast future opportunities.
  • Collaborates with wholesale merchandisers, Ecomm buyers and planners, Demand Planning and makes key determinations on cross-channel inventory (inventory sharing, buy re-forecasting, price changes etc) based on analysis of selling trends and US business conditions.
  • Partner with retail visual merchandiser and marketing manager to plan and execute seasonal marketing features based on key brand stories, seasonality, forecasts, selling trends, and available inventory.
  • Set up product in Retail SAP, place seasonal buys, partner with wholesale on closeout/MOOS inventory opportunities, etc.
  • Partner closely with Planning, Merchandising, Marketing, and Analytics to maximize product margin productivity and top-line revenue.
  • Performs duties consistent with the Company’s AAP/EEO goals and policies.
  • Performs other duties as required/assigned by manager.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Merchandising, or Mathematics or equivalent work experience.
  • 4+ years of retail merchandising experience preferred.
  • Excellent negotiations, analytical, and organizational skills as well as good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well independently as well as develop strong working relationships with the other merchandising department members.
  • Must possess a fashion sense and understand how to meet the needs of the customer.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills needed.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Excellent accuracy and detail-focus.
  • Strong coordination and communication skills. Ability to present data and influence discussion with managers, peers and members of cross-functional teams.
  • Strong experience in Microsoft office, specifically Excel.
  • Experience with SAP and BW is preferred.
Working Conditions
Normal office environment. Open to both Rockford, MI and Waltham, MA offices.
Wolverine Worldwide has a flexible, hybrid work schedule, with three days in office and two days remote.
