Job Posting Summary

This is a unique role for a current graduate student that provides the opportunity to enhance leadership, interpersonal, networking and communication skills in the Office of Residential Life. The Residential Coordinator will work closely with the professional staff to create and contribute to the enhancement of an on-campus living and learning environment conducive to student success.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Residential Life (AD), the Residential Coordinator is a part-time live-in position at Dorm34 under a 10-month contract from August 2023 to May 2024. Total compensation is $10,000 for the 10 month period, paid semi-monthly.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

Staff supervision

  • Assist the AD with the supervision and training of Resident Assistants (RAs) in the areas of programming, crisis response, collaboration, and campus culture
  • Participate in RA training in the winter and summer as well as supplemental in-services and professional development opportunities
  • Oversee Desk Attendants (DAs) and RAs in the absence of professional staff members
Student Development and Engagement
  • Provide leadership and support to the residential community at Dorm34
  • Regularly interact with students and provide availability both during the day and in the evening hours
  • Act in an advising capacity and refer students to appropriate campus offices, services, and resources in accordance with the Student Handbook and Residential Life policies
  • Follow up with student concerns, act as a liaison to ensure timeliness of reporting and service completion
  • Assist with health and safety inspections and roommate mediations
Crisis Response
  • Serve in the duty in collaboration with other live in staff at Manhattan campus (approximately two weeks per month)
  • Respond to incidents in a timely manner and report them in accordance with policy
  • Attend staff trainings to adequately and appropriately respond to incidents
  • Attend various meetings with campus stakeholders
  • Assist with administrative processes, policies, and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned.
Hours:
Overall hours will vary per week. Typical expectations include:
  • 20 office hours per week (flexible to class schedule and needs of students)
  • Weekend and evening responsibilities due to the nature of this position (including pre-determined dates for duty, events, training)Weekly staff meetings (adjusted every semester to accommodate staff schedules)

Qualifications


Required Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of student leadership experience. Residential Life and/or Campus Life experience preferred
  • One year of project management experience
  • One year of experience advising and mitigating conflict
  • One year crisis response experience
  • Ability to implement student development theories to meet the needs of our student population
  • Willingness to learn about our students and provide insight to improve our community interactions
  • Interest in working in a global community
Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Enrolled in a graduate program during the academic year 2023-2024
Physical/Other Requirements:
  • Ability to travel between campuses
  • Must be able to push, pull, move or lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to meet all general health requirements for the position as per college policies
