We have an exciting career opportunity for a Residential Summer Camp Counselor/Teaching Assistant Support Professional who will assist children (ages 11 to 21) with autism to achieve goals and objectives based on their Individual Education Program (IEP) while attending summer camp in a safe and enriching environment. This includes structured, planned activities such as swimming, local trips, arts & craft, music & movement, along with daily hygiene goals. The schedule for this position is 24 hours/day, 7 days/week including nights and weekends for a total of 7 weeks while the students attend the program. The highly talented individual must demonstrate a passionate commitment to Eden’s mission and want to deliver in a high-value and mission-driven organization. The position runs from the end of June – mid August. Summer only - Residential Camp Position which pays $5000 for full-time.

Job Requirements:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The following responsibilities are to be performed under the direct supervision of a Certified Teacher.
  • Assist leadership staff by providing individual attention to student(s) during individual and group sessions including but not limited to the following:
o Maintain a positive working rapport with students.
o Implement teaching and behavior support programs using behavioral model appropriately and consistently.
o Appropriately manage maladaptive behaviors including tantrums, self-injury, and aggression.
o Collect and record teaching and behavior management data on a daily basis.
o Maintain graphs on all teaching and behavior programs.
o Implement age appropriate reinforcement systems.
o Assist in organizing group activities.
o Complete student communication journal on a daily basis
o Conduct and participate in group activities utilizing the leader/prompter model.
o Assist other staff members in supervising students on all activities as needed.
o Respect students’ rights.
o Participate in swim instruction during each student’s group session.
o Complete of progress reports
o Assist students with daily hygiene routines to include handwashing, bath-rooming, dressing, showering, etc.
o Provide coverage for night duty as determined by the program schedule.
o Participate in mandatory training the week prior to the program starting

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education: High School diploma or GED equivalent; Bachelor’s degree or active enrollment in an undergraduate program strongly preferred.
Experience: Entry Level; prefer experience working with developmentally disabled individuals, including autism.
Physical and Other Requirements
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, squat, kneel, stretch, stoop, and/or reach above shoulder level for extended periods of time (up to 30 minutes) during the work day.
  • Vision requirements to include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to pass and maintain Professional Crisis Management (PCM) certification at a P2 level on an annual basis, including implementation of all strategies and techniques.
  • Ability to move or be moved freely and quickly to ensure the safety of students/participants at all times.
  • Basic swimming skills

  • Demonstrated commitment to helping individuals with autism.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively interact with students and other teaching assistants and employees.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent customer service within all aspects of the job duties on a consistent basis.

Background Check
