The Lynchburg District has an exciting career opportunity in our Farmville Residency Office which covers a four-county area (Buckingham, Charlotte, Cumberland and Prince Edward Counties).

This position will assist the Resident Engineer to ensure the coordination, integration and management of VDOT resources and staff impacting a residency transportation program, which includes routine and emergency roadway maintenance and safety operations. The position will serve as the focal point for services and primary contact/liaison for local governments on activities impacting the local geographic region, as well as administer VDOT land development activities under the advisory authority of the District Land Use Director regarding land use policies, procedures and guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience applying civil engineering principles and practices to land development design, transportation construction, and maintenance projects. Experience with land use and development activities to include rezoning and public meetings. Experience managing and directing activities related to staffing, budgeting, planning, prioritizing, scheduling, project management oversight, problem solving and training. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse audiences. Skill in the use of computers and software programs to include MS Office and engineering design software. Skill in developing and managing effective relationships with employees, citizens and public officials. Must be a registered Professional Engineer (PE) with the ability to obtain a Virginia PE license within 6 months of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Progressively responsible engineering and land development experience in a diversified transportation program. Progressively responsible experience managing a transportation maintenance program. B.S. in Civil Engineering or related field.
