Job Summary
This position is responsible for advising and assisting current and prospective University of Utah students with the application process for residency reclassification. This will involve understanding and following applicable Utah state residency law along with Board of Regents and institutional policies. The employee will evaluate residency reclassification applications and the supporting documentation to determine if a student qualifies for residency reclassification, which grants the student the ability to pay in-state tuition rates. The employee will also advise students on how to navigate through the application process and meet appropriate deadlines. The employee will assist individuals at our service window as well as on the telephone and via email, and may engage in telecommunications appointments as requested. Staff are required to be in the office; this is not a remote position. After 90 days and with management approval, employees may have the opportunity to work up to three days a week remotely.

Responsibilities
  • Provide policy interpretation for applicants seeking residency reclassification, process applications and determine eligibility for reclassification based on applicable Utah state law, Board of Regents, and institutional policies.

  • Work on residency maintenance tasks and assist colleagues with residency projects.

  • Provide general information for students regarding other areas related to academic services.

  • Prioritize daily work responsibilities and recommend changes to supervisor to improve processes.

  • Attend all-staff training sessions and area meetings as instructed by supervisor.

  • Resolve problems and complaints by researching and locating other sources to assist in solutions.

  • Collaborate and assist with department projects and objectives when requested.

  • Demonstrate excellent customer relation and effective communication skills.

  • Complete tasks assigned by supervisor in a timely manner.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Three years of general office experience, one of which in an academic setting; and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills required. College coursework in a related area is preferred.

Preference will be given to candidates who have previous experience working in university admissions or residency evaluation.
