Job description
- Manages the day-to-day operations of a research laboratory.
- Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens and/or tissue cultures.
- Operates laboratory equipment, including analysis, maintenance, troubleshooting problems, and obtaining factory support when necessary.
- Develops analytic methods and prepares written laboratory procedures.
- Analyzes data, archives data electronically, and prepares reports for internal and external facility users.
- Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Collaborates to publish in peer-reviewed journals.
- Ensures compliance with Environmental Health and Safety rules and regulations, including EPA and state; maintains necessary records.
- Collaborates with faculty on research and proposal development.
- May instruct undergraduate/graduate students with faculty supervision.
- May develop grant proposals and/or submit to internal and external funding agencies.
- Maintains laboratory records. Documents procedures and protocols.
- May hire, train, and guide student employees.
- Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science or similar field plus two years of experience in a related field.
- Driver's license and/or reliable transportation to collect biological material.
- Experience with livestock animals is necessary.
- Lambing/kidding experience is necessary.
- Overall knowledge of goat and sheep physiology and care is necessary.
- MS degree.
- Laboratory experience is preferred.
