Research Technician

We are seeking an experienced research technician or research technologist for our Experimental Immunology research laboratory at the Center for Immunology and Inflammatory Diseases (CIID) at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Our laboratory uses in vivo imaging techniques to investigate mechanisms of immune cell migration and function, with a focus on Cancer Immunology. The overall goal is to discover new immunological mechanisms and to develop these into novel strategies in the immunotherapy of human disease. The research environment in our department is outstanding and the position will provide excellent experience for an individual interested in an academic career in immunology and other fields of biomedical science.
Primary job activities will include:
- Manages our mouse colony (>30 mutant and compound mutant strains)
- Assists in basic experimental procedures (Tissue harvest, cell culture, flow cytometry, PCR etc.)
- Keeps the lab stocked with supplies and manages ordering
- Assists in new lab personnel orientation and training
- Assists in regulatory and compliance activities (E.g., animal care and use protocols)
- Serves as lab safety officer and prepares the lab for annual safety inspections
- Maintains and operates our two multiphoton intravital microscopy facilities
Depending on interest and ability there is opportunity to carry out collaborative or independent research projects, with the potential for contributing or primary authorship on scientific publications.
EDUCATION
BS or BA is required, M.S preferred. At least one year of full-time work in a basic research laboratory setting providing experience with small animal work (preferably mice) and cellular (e.g. cell culture) and molecular laboratory techniques (esp. PCR) is required; further training in these and other techniques will be provided.
