The Department of Physical Therapy is part of a vibrant academic and research community within Sargent College and across Boston University's Charles River and Medical campuses. Under the guidance and supervision of the Professor for Pediatric Rehabilitation in the Department of Physical Therapy, the Research Assistant will provide research and administrative support to advance the work of her lab. Research activities of the lab focus on understanding the relationship between motor development, communication, and language acquisition among infants at an elevated likelihood for neurodevelopmental disabilities and infants with neurotypical development.

The Research Assistant will have both administrative and research-related responsibilities. These duties are varied, dynamic, and rely on a versatile skill set. This part-time position at 30 hours per week provides an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience and skills in public health planning, and research facilitation, and become part of a vibrant, growing college community.

Essential Functions:

Contribute to the design, coordination, and conduct of research projects. Assist with the development of assessment batteries. Support data collection, data coding, experimental design, and the running of studies. Assist with recruitment, assessment, and characterization of human subjects. May participate to determine eligibility and administer informed consent. Safeguard the confidentiality of materials and participant identity. Maintain various databases including participant records.

Assist with documentation as needed for projects and programs. May assist in the preparation of literature review, grant applications, manuscripts, and presentations including organizing citations. In close coordination with the PI, support IRB protocols for expedited IRB review or exempt determinations.

Contribute to the overall success of the lab by providing administrative support to foster communication, collaboration, and alignment among research team members and key stakeholders. Anticipate and proactively suggest solutions to administrative challenges.

Support the Associate Dean of Research in all administrative areas, including administration of the summer research awards, website updates, communications with faculty, award notifications, and tracking award progress reports.

Required:


  • Bachelors degree required with 1-3 years of experience; a combination of education and experience may be considered Proficiency in Microsoft Suite software
  • Ability to handle confidential information
  • A cover letter is required for consideration; additional writing samples may be required


Preferred:

  • Familiarity with research methods
  • Experience working with human subjects, especially with pediatric populations preferred
  • Experience with observational research, video coding, and Datavyu software preferred
  • Close attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work within a diverse community
  • A collaborative work approach with the ability to shift responsibilities as needed to support team members
