The University of Utah Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences would like to post one full-time position at the level of Research Assistant Professor who will work in the research side of the department. The duties of the position include data generation and processing, manuscript preparation, and contribution to ongoing research activities, including ultrastructural connectomics projects. Additionally, the applicant is also expected to write and submit grants for external funding.
Qualifications:
Any applicant must have at least five years experience in ultrastructural connectomics, pathoconnectomics, computational molecular phenotyping, and transmission electron microscope maintenance and operation. Any applicant must have at least a doctoral (PhD) degree. The ideal applicant for this position will also have extensive experience with glial responses to retinal disease and have an interest in expanding this field.
Essential Functions:
The applicant will be involved in the connectomics projects of the Jones research group. Specifically, the applicant will lead in connectome/pathoconnectome generation and supervise the data acquisition required for this construction. The applicant will be expected to perform the CMP analysis required for molecular fingerprinting within the connectome volumes. The applicant is also expected to have extensive expertise in the ultrastructural analysis of TEM micrographs and annotation using the Viking software environment, as well as experience in 3D rendering and analysis using Python and Blender, and be capable of teaching these skills to students. In addition to the roles within our connectome generation and analysis, the applicant is expected to generate independent lines of connectomics inquiry and write grants for independent external funding.
