Research Assistant Position
The Cognitive-Motor Learning Laboratory at the Moss Rehabilitation Research Institute (MRRI) located in
Elkins Park, PA, has an opening for a Research Assistant beginning in Spring 2023. Under the direction of
Aaron Wong, Ph.D., the laboratory investigates how people acquire skilled actions through interactions between the motor system and cognition. This research involves behavioral assessment in neurotypical individuals and in patients with neurological disorders (e.g., stroke, Parkinson’s disease) using a variety of motion tracking and kinematic analyses. The RA will gain valuable experience with all stages of the scientific process spanning experiment conception and design through data analysis and presentation. The RA will learn to write experimental control software for passive kinematics recordings and active robotic perturbations of the limb, and collect and analyze clinical and behavioral data from healthy controls and individuals with neurological disorders. Furthermore, the RA will assist in the composition of manuscripts for publication and posters for conference presentations. MRRI is internationally known for its research in neuroscience and neuro- rehabilitation.
Position Responsibilities:
- Read, understand, and assist in designing experimental protocols
- Recruit, schedule, consent, and test participants according to experimental protocols, including operation of relevant hardware and software
- Program experiment control software, primarily in Matlab/Simulink and C++
- Process, analyze, and model data with Matlab/Python and R scripts with assistance of PI
- Assist in conducting literature reviews, writing manuscripts, and creating posters
- Track and manage all data collection and subject participant information as required by the Internal Review
Board
Requirements for Applicants:
- B.S. or M.S. in Engineering, Neuroscience, Psychology, Kinesiology, or a closely related discipline
- Proficient in one or more of the following programming languages: MATLAB, Simulink, C++, python, R
- Interest in understanding human motor behavior and the brain
- Excellent organization, interpersonal, and communication skills
Preferences for Applicants:
- Prior research/clinical experience or training
- Knowledgeable in data analysis and statistics
