The Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth is a nonprofit center for innovation dedicated to advancing the field of gifted education through research on testing, programs, and other supports for advanced learners. We start from the premise that advanced learners come from every community and every demographic, and we aim to understand and inform how these students need to be nurtured to achieve their full potential as learners and global citizens.

Under the supervision of Emily Delinski and Dr. Amy Shelton, we are seeking a Research Assistant who will work with an interdisciplinary team to conduct research on the characterization and identification of academic potential in K-12 learners.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Assist with development of research instruments.
Provide feedback on developments from other team members.
Participate in team discussions.
Assist in writing literature reviews.
Assist in writing IRB protocols, reports, and manuscripts.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Education, Cognitive Science, Psychology.
Some related experience.
Previous work experience that involves organizational, interpersonal and computer literacy skills.

Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certification

Knowledge of research protocols (IRB, NIH, NSF).
Knowledge of web content management software.
Knowledge of statistical software is helpful but required.

Physical Requirements

Ability to access and transmit information using a computer; dexterity of hands to operate a computer keyboard, mouse pad and other office machinery.
The incumbent will be required to communicate regularly via telephone, email; must be able to exchange accurate and timely information in these settings.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing.
