    College/Department Information

    The Immunology Center of Georgia (IMMCG) represents a new initiative by the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University to leverage the ability of the immune system to combat disease. The IMMCG will accomplish this by assembling teams of biomedical researchers with strong records of scientific innovation and technological development. The IMMCG will be co-directed by world-class immunologists Drs. Catherine ‘Lynn’ Hedrick and Klaus Ley, both of whom have made major discoveries linking immune cells to specific mechanisms of disease. The goal of the IMMCG is to produce novel and effective treatments for conditions that heavily impact the communities of Georgia and the United States. The new center is aggressively recruiting faculty and staff to lead projects focused on cardiovascular disease, obesity and metabolic disorders, autoimmune and infectious disease, neurodegenerative disease, and cancer.

    Job Summary

    Performs laboratory work related to studies in cancer and heart disease. Maintains research database, communicates well with other laboratory members, and works well as part of a team. Assists with ordering supplies and maintaining a safe and organized laboratory environment.

    Responsibilities

    Responsibilities to include but not limited to:

    Manage experimental animal colonies and genotype mice. Maintain animal protocols. Perform a variety of examinations of specimens on chemical analyzer for the presence of diseases and pathological conditions. Prepare culture media, incubate and culture tumor cell line, stain slides, and isolate and stain cells from tumor-bearing animals for cytometry studies. Perform molecular biology techniques. Maintain laboratory databases of reagents and antibodies. Perform other related duties assigned.

    Required Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research OR Associate degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research.

    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

    Ability to maintain confidentiality. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.

    Shift/Salary/Benefits

    Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)

    Pay Grade: R9

    Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
