POSITION OVERVIEW

The Rentals and Waterfront Manager is responsible for the overall operations of the waterfront department including the rentals, fuel, and slips.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Staff Training/Personnel

  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training of each new and current waterfront employees from their first day and throughout the season
  • Responsible for training all waterfront employees on proper waterfront procedures and SOP’s relating to the gas dock, rental department, and rental slips (where applicable)
  • Ensure all waterfront employees have the capability of safely and properly executing all operations and tasks on the gas dock and rental department
  • Conduct waterfront meetings to ensure proper communication throughout the team
  • Responsible for keeping up with coaching throughout the staff with the HR department and Waterfront Director
  • Responsible for creating/overseeing weekly waterfront schedule

Fuel

  • Responsible for daily price checking and ordering fuel in a timely fashion while the waterfront department is in season
  • Responsible for the thorough fuel training of all staff to ensure safety for all employees and customers
  • Responsible for immediately communicating any repairs necessary to the fuel tank and equipment
  • Recommend fuel prices based on the current market and suppliers pricing

Slips

  • Responsible for maintaining an accurate slip seniority list, as well as slip waiting list
  • Recommend seasonal slip pricing
  • Collect payment annually from current and new slip customers
  • Ensure slip customers are provided with excellent customer service

Rentals

  • Responsible for the overall operations and sales of the rental department through the reservation process, rental orientation process with customers, and the rental return process
  • Ability to properly demonstrate and train both employees and customers on the proper and safe use of all rental equipment and boats
  • Responsible for declining a rental customer if they do not pass the driving test and make judgment calls to protect our department, company, customers, and employees
  • Responsible for overseeing boat cleanliness, preventative maintenance, service work, and the damage collection process Responsible for executing and overseeing the damage process
  • Responsible for following all waterfront SOP’s, as well as assist in the creation/adjustment of SOP’s, procedures, and policies
  • Responsible for ensuring all rental areas are tidy and appealing to customers
  • Recommend pricing for rental boats and gear
  • Responsible for coordinating and scheduling rental pick up/drop offs with service department and waterfront employees if rentals are traveling elsewhere
  • Ensure exceptional customer service is provided to all rental department customers
  • Promote future boat rentals to all rental customers through end of year incentives, post season discounts, “review us” discounts, etc.
  • Set high expectations for customer service and operational performance and achieve them
  • Work side by side with the marketing team to continually promote the rental department
  • Continuously brainstorm new ideas to increase sales
  • Work side by side with all local Tommy’s Boats departments (sales, pro shop, service) to ensure proper and consistent communication throughout the team
  • Interface with customers, vendors, and other business units
  • Uphold all laws, standards, and regulations that apply to the business
  • Maintain a safe work environment through training, audits, and continuous improvements
  • Develop a business that customers want to visit
  • Any other tasks as requested by supervisor

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Communication: Ability to interact professionally with colleagues, clients, and company personnel; ability to communicate information clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
  • Customer Service: Ability to serve our customers respectfully and efficiently; understand that the customer is our number one priority and serving them is what makes us successful
  • Training: Ability to clearly document company procedures and policies and train staff and employees on these company procedures and policies
  • Trailering: Ability to safely and effectively trailer boats among different locations; ability to properly launch boats at various lakes and marinas
  • Travel: Ability to travel to local lakes and marinas and assist/train customers on proper rental boat use

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education/Experience: Minimum of 2 years of management experience preferred
  • Computer Skills: Microsoft Office experience required
  • Boater’s License: Have or obtain a valid boater’s license required
  • Driver’s License: Have or obtain a valid driver’s license required; pass a thorough MVR and obtain MVR acceptance by Tommy’s Boats insurance company

  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, regularly required to stand and walk. Employee regularly uses hands and fingers to touch, feel, and handle. Employee regularly stoops, kneels, bends at the waist, and reaches. Employee is frequently required to speak and hear. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion.
