St. Lawrence Martyr Parish, Hanover, MD, is a very active and rapidly-growing parish in the Archdiocese of Baltimore with a rich history spanning more than 150 years. Our parish is very well known for its welcoming atmosphere, its faithful and sacramental worship of God, and its abundantly generous service not just to one another, but to all of our brothers and sisters in need who live in our parish’s surrounding communities.

We are seeking a Coordinator of Religious Education (CRE). The CRE is a professional catechetical leader specifically commissioned to assist children in their Religious Education and Faith Formation. As a member of the parish staff, the CRE reports directly to the Pastor and works with others on staff to form a parish environment characterized by prayer, hospitality, learning, mutual respect, and Christian charity. This is a full-time position.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Select and implement an Archdiocesan approved curriculum in regular catechesis and family life
• Organization of registration and re‐registration of all PREP students
• Recruitment, appointment, and direction of volunteer catechists and assisting staff
• Procurement and care of all PREP textbooks and other materials needed for the program
• Accurate and timely maintenance of permanent record files, attendance, and records of all PREP students
• Promotion and maintenance of ongoing communication with parents and catechists/teachers through a yearly calendar of events, current Handbook, notes, and meetings as needed
• Provision for access and inclusion of children with special learning needs
• Ensure the Safe Environment requirements (Virtus Certification), policies, and mandates for Parish Religious Education volunteers are in compliance with Archdiocesan standards
• Annual preparation of and responsible management of a budget, which is approved by the Finance Committee, for all income and expenses related to the Parish Religious Education Program.
• Collect tuition and maintain financial records related to the Parish Religious Education Program. Procure all textbooks and supplies in a timely fashion and maintain an inventory of the same.
• Schedule, organize, and oversee Baptism Preparation, First Reconciliation, and First Communion catechesis and preparation classes.
• Plan the First Reconciliation and First Communion liturgies and a suitable reception after the liturgies for the children and their parents.
• Maintain membership and active involvement in professional associations of religious educators, including the National Conference for Catechetical Leadership (NCCL), Baltimore Area Catechetical Minister Association (BACM), and Ann Arundel County Coordinators of Religious Education (AACCRE)
• Serve as the parish-level assistant to the Virtus Coordinator and Parish Center Scheduler.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Religious Education or Theology preferred but not required.
• Relevant work experience and Religious Education as a leader, teacher, or volunteer will be highly considered.
• Knowledge of diocesan guidelines and procedures
• Proficiency in computer programs and working knowledge of social media platforms that work with parents and families is helpful (Flock Notes and others).
• Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing
• Must be able to participate fully in the Sacramental life of the church
• Recommendation from the applicant’s pastor is requested.
