Rehab Technician

Summary: The Rehabilitation Technician is a non-professional staff in providing therapy services to patients receiving therapeutic services. Supervision is provided by the Director, P.T., P.T. A., O.T.R., C.O.T.A., S.L.P., -CCC or Supervisor.

Qualifications:

Education:

High School diploma or GED required.

*Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word required*

Experience:

Must be at least 18 years of age; familiar with medical terminology. On-the-job training provided as pertains to specific disciplines (PT, OT, SLP). Must read speak and understand English, must have continually demonstrated a positive attitude toward the elderly, sick, and/or infirm; have a firm commitment to attendance and with the Facility's mission in caring for our resident; must demonstrate the ability to work with others.

Physical Demands:

Standing and walking 90% of work shift. Sitting 5 – 10% of work shift. Lifting and carrying up to fifty (50) pounds without assistance up to 2/3 of the workday. Stooping, pushing and pulling up to 100 pounds up to 1/3 of the day. Sufficient motor coordination and manual dexterity to handle patients and equipment. Cleaning equipment and storage areas.

Work Conditions/Hazards

Work is primarily inside except when assisting licensed staff to address the outside needs of the resident. Exposure to various cleaning agents used to disinfect equipment. Exposure to physical agents when assisting with modalities, Exposure to heat, cold, and electrical equipment when administering modalities. Exposure to dust and enclosed areas when cleaning storage areas. Possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens.

Other skills and Attitudes:

Strong interpersonal skills in order to adequately communicate with the resident, staff and family Members; in addition to communication with staff regarding the patient's current status,

Functions:

Assist patient with dressing or undressing,

Assist patient with transfers from surface to surface.

Assist resident and staff with positioning and draping of patients.

Assist with treatment preparation.

Assist in providing therapy services under supervision of licensed personnel which may include but is not limited to: range of motion, therapeutic exercises, ambulation, transfer training, activities as outlined by licensed staff.

Recognize factors within the patients environment that may pose safety hazards and report them to appropriate supervisory personnel.

Complete documentation as outlined in policies and procedures.

Complete daily assignments with a reasonable and acceptable amount of time.

Recognize changes in patient's ability to perform activities as outlined, and report to licensed personnel,
