POSITION SUMMARY

Individual must possess strong clinical skills and the ability to assess and carry out treatment plans for patients who have been referred for PICC line placement and Infusion Therapy. Strong IV skills are critical as well as expertise with PICC lines, central lines and implanted ports. Individual will be responsible for evaluation and assessment of the patient prior to PICC placement. Placement, care and maintenance of all PICC and CVC lines and dressings. Assess patients daily by admission printout, pharmacy printout for mid to long term vascular access devices candidates. Coordinate with case management to identify patients needing mid to long term VAD's. Educate clinical and physician staff on patients needing mid to long term VAD. Assist the Clinical Director in maintaining policies and procedures for VAD's, as well as monitoring all vascular access device outcomes and present to QA, and maintaining PI projects. Strong documentation skills as well as solid computer skills. Must be willing to help cover other clinical areas as needed.

This position will also be responsible for participating in the coverage of scheduled outpatient EKGs & EEGs. As well as assisting with IV access in the periop area as needed and able.

This position has exposure to body fluids and communicable disease. Majority of time is spent standing and/or walking short distances (up to 70% of work time) with frequent lifting, carrying and moving items up to 30 lbs. (up to 10% of work time). Sedentary activities may include repetitive motion (up to 20% of work time).

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Arkansas RN license or licensed in a state that has enacted the RN/LPN NLC, and CPR.

SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL AND SKILL COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: A minimum of 5 years general nursing experience is required. A minimum of 2 years experience IV Therapy required. Certification in Infusion Therapy and PICC certification is preferred. Individual must be able to manage multiple tasks at one time, communicate effectively with outside departments, and must understand and practice good infection control procedures
