Fresh graduates and nurses having experience in healthcare facility, acute care, long-term care or correction setting can apply for the position. RN I deliver quality nursing care to adult through utilization of the nursing process in accordance with hospital policy and procedure and standards of nursing care and practice. Candidates can be move into a Registered Nurse II position after 1 year at DBHDS or demonstrating a thorough understanding of competencies relating to psychiatric healthcare.

Western State Hospital is seeking Registered Nurses for 2nd or 3rd shifts. Registered Nurses are scheduled to work (2) 12-hour shifts and (2) 8-hour shifts or (5) 8-hour shift per week and every other weekend.

Paid Shift Differential:

1st shift weekend $5.50/hr.

2nd shift weekdays $5.50/hr., and weekend/holidays $6.00/hr.

3rd shift weekdays $4.00/hr, and weekend/holidays $7.00/hr.

We are waiting for the Occupancy certificate for two new units, which will add 56 beds to our capacity.

Minimum Qualifications

- Knowledge of basic nursing standards and fundamentals.

- Current, Virginia license to practice as a Registered Nurse or license eligible; multi-state compact endorsement is accepted.

- Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care utilizing knowledge of pharmacology, psychiatric and physical disorders and cultural needs of the psychiatric patient.

- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

- Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited institution of higher education, work experience may substitute for education.

Preferred Qualifications:
