The Huntington with Virginia Health Services is hiring a Registered Medication Aide for our Assisted Living facility located in Newport News, VA. This position is for Part Time, Day Shift and Full Time, Night Shift including every other weekend.

The Registered Medication Aide has the following responsibilities:

  • Providing direct resident care including proper hygienic, grooming and personal care in a timely manner.
  • Performing housekeeping duties, such as making resident beds, cleaning resident apartments, common areas, dining rooms, etc. as directed by supervisor.
  • Checking on residents, ensuring attendance at meals and activities.
  • Complying with established policies and procedures related to resident care and safety to include proper body mechanics and transferring resident.
  • Providing a comfortable, clean and safe environment for residents and assuring the Residents' Rights are honored and protected.
  • Participating in orientation, in-service education programs and attending State required in-services to maintain required in-service hours.
  • Attendance to all medication trainings scheduled.
  • Completing medication cart audits as assigned and maintain the medication cart as directed.
  • Passing all medication administration observations.
  • Passing all medication cart audits assigned.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency based on medication pass observations performed annually.
  • Communicating all medication resident needs to the Health Care Coordinator and documenting in Daily Log.
  • Documenting all medication administration. Reporting all exceptions to the Health Care Coordinator.
  • Assuming duties at any Virginia Health Services unit/facility as required.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Completion of a State approved Registration Medication Aide and Nursing Assistant course.
  • Registered Medication Aide and Certified Nursing Assistant in good standing with the Virginia Board of Nursing.
  • Gerontological experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with medication and medical terminology.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write correspondence.
  • Ability to understand and carry out written and/or oral instructions.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull and move equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
