Must be a licensed and Registered Dietician!

SUMMARY: Assists Dietitian with the provision of food and nutrition services to promote optimal nutritional health and well being of each resident.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: An individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Assists in developing and updating plans of care. This includes but is not limited to: communication upon admission; educating regularly thereafter with physicians, residents, family, staff, and others regarding diet history, resident food preferences, nutritional screening, supplement tolerance, dietary requirements, and prescribed diet plan; developing and regularly updating written dietary plan of care promoting formulary compliance; communication with proper staff and necessary interventions. Regularly reviews and disseminates discharge plans, as necessary.
  • Assist with developing and maintaining economical diet plans to meet the needs of each resident.
  • Manages supplement program. This includes but is not limited to: promotion of approved formulary, oversight of distribution and acceptance, and regular communication with dietician regarding cost effectiveness of program.
  • Regularly monitors residents. This includes but is not limited to: identifying and managing weight variances; communicating with staff regarding food preferences, intake, weight variances, wounds and wound care, and other relevant dietary matters; making referrals to dietician; care planning; implementing appropriate intervention(s).
  • As directed, assist with quality assurance. This includes but is not limited to: attending meetings, making rounds, ensuring adherence to dietary procedures, and auditing systems.
  • Observes proper safety and reporting practices. This includes but is not limited to: timely and proper reporting of injuries, incidents, equipment and/or maintenance problems; compliance with OSHA mandates and workplace safety practices including but not limited to: hazard communication, blood borne pathogens, infection control practices, fire safety and safe lifting techniques. In an emergency, carries out assigned duties to assure resident and employee safety.
  • Maintains proper documentation. This includes but is not limited to: maintenance of Kardex or other approved resident profile data, tray cards, care plans, supplement lists, special food lists, adaptive equipment, fluid restrictions/interventions, nutritional screening, resident responses, and other matters relevant to food services.
  • As directed, assists with survey processes.
  • Maintains and applies current skills and knowledge through continuing education and in-service programs.
  • Carries out responsibilities in compliance with federal, state, local laws, regulations, and facility philosophy, policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to speak, understand and read the English language to the extent necessary to safely and properly care for residents.
  • Assists with the development and update of food service policies and procedures to reflect the philosophy of the facility, professional standards, and legal requirements.
  • Ability to organize, document, and implement detailed programs. Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • This position requires standing, sitting, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, climbing, twisting upper body, walking, running, carrying, listening, talking, use of telephone, and exposure to medical equipment and persons with risk of illness.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTIES: As directed, may assist in supervising employees of the Food Services Department. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Associate Degree in Dietetics (or equivalent). A minimum of 2 years experience as a clinical dietetic role preferred. Meets state and federal requirements.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Successful completion of the Dietetic Technician Registration Exam, resulting in the attainment of the Registered Dietetic Technician (RDT) credential and a Registered Dietetic Technician in good standing with the credentialing agency of the American Dietetic Association.
