The Sheriff has announced an opening for a Facilitator in the Programming Section of the Detention Division at the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex.

Applicants must have:

· Outstanding public speaking ability, presentation skills and teaching ability;

· Computer skills and proficiency with the LPSO Records Management System, MS Office programs—especially PowerPoint;

· Organizational skills;

· Self-motivation;

· Dependability;

· Ability to teach various courses provided by DOC and create courses based on various topics;

· Willingness to obtain instructor certifications.

The essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

· Responsible for the implementation, evaluation, monitoring and coordination of skill development and reentry initiatives designed to enhance the successful return of offenders to their communities;

· Facilitate and teach various classes to include, but not limited to, pre-release, anger management, parenting, Thinking for a Change, moral reconation therapy, risk management, and other life skills impact classes;

· Schedule classes and track attendance, grades, completions, deficiencies, discipline problems, and needs;

· Prepare all required DOC forms to information to the Programming Director and DOC;

· Work with Case Managers to assist offenders in reentry needs;

· Assist offenders in researching and securing community resources, in applying for governmental, state, and other programs available upon release;

· Creating and issuing letters for offenders to send to various agencies;

· Assist offenders in securing housing and employment upon release;

· Seek and recommend course topics and program improvements;

· Function as a member of the Reentry Team and assist in the facility wherever needed;

· Assist in the delivery of class facilitation at TWP when needed;

· Must be able to work a primarily evening schedule;

· Additional duties may be assigned.

Applicants will appear before an Oral Review Board, which will be scheduled in the weeks following the deadline date. The Oral Review Board will consider, but will not be limited to, the following information: years of service, college education, military service, training certifications, special skills, performance on physical assessment, and dependability.

Beginning annual base salary will be at least $32,100. This position is eligible for State Supplemental Pay but not a take home unit.
