The Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center (JCC) seeks candidates with a passion for sports to fill the role of Recreation Sports Instructor. These positions are responsible for leading and supervising a group of children/adults during a designated class or program block. Staff must assist in development of program curriculum. Staff are responsible for implementing programs and activities based on the class/program description. They will also be responsible for the general safety and well-being of the participants in their class/program.

These positions will start the week of September 11th. The hours & days are flexible in these blocks:

  • Monday – Friday 9:00-12:00pm
  • Monday - Friday 1:00-3:00pm
  • Monday – Friday 4:00pm – 6:00pm (5:30pm on Fridays)
  • Tuesdays & Thursdays 6:00-10:00pm


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist Recreation Manager in development of class/program curriculum.
  • Arrive on time with enough time to prepare and set up for class.
  • Return equipment/supply to recreation closet and communicate and equipment/supply needs to the Recreation Manager .
  • Arrive in designated JCC Recreation uniform with nametag and whistle (if appropriate).
  • Organize and lead a variety of general activities and instruction each day, specific to the class/program description.
  • Identify and respond to participant behavioral needs.
  • Communicate with Recreation Manager regarding any participant achievement, questions, or concerns.
  • Track attendance and progress of participants in their assigned class and complete any necessary paperwork during and at the end of the class session.
  • Attend all required trainings and in-services.
  • Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the class/program and the agency.
  • Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the all-program areas. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for your participants’ safety and their whereabouts at all times.
  • Uphold the mission and values of the JCC at all times.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements (KSAs)

Possess knowledge of:

  • Coaching/Teaching of sports skills to a variety of ages and abilities
  • Effective class management
  • Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities.


Demonstrate skills in:

  • Leadership

  • Excellent verbal communication skills


Possess the ability to:

  • Follow all JCC policies and procedures

  • Ensure that an environment which fosters maximum physical, social, cognitive and emotional development of children is developed and maintained


Education and/or Experience

  • Recreation Sports Instructors must be 16 years of age or older
  • Recreation background required
  • Previous experience working with children/adults in a recreation setting preferred
  • American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid preferred, or ability to complete upon hire
