REPORTS TO: Recreation Supervisors
DEPARTMENT: Parks & Recreation
JOB LEVEL: Full-time

General Purpose
Plans, organizes and coordinates community recreation events, including, but not limited to; holiday and special events, concert and movie series programming, family events and Eureka Days. Assists the Director of Parks and Recreation towards ensuring that the Parks and Recreation Department tasks are completed.

Supervision Received
Works under the direct supervision of the Recreation Supervisor of Events and Marketing as well as general supervision of the Recreation Supervisors, Director of Parks and Recreation and other City supervisory staff, as directed.

Duties, Responsibilities, and Expectations
Assists the Recreation Supervisor of Events and Marketing in developing and implementing activities such as concert and movie series programming, holiday events and special events such as Eureka Days, Daddy Daughter Dance, Big Truck Day, etc.

Assists in developing, implementing and evaluating recreation events.

Assists with marketing of all Department and City-supported programs, events, facilities, etc. Assists in preparing for publication, a variety of brochures, calendars, letters, posters, news releases, flyers, social media posts and related communication regarding Parks and Recreation Department programs. Tracks social media, Google and website analytics.

Enters program registrations and facility reservations and conducts inquiries utilizing CivicRec, a web-based interface.

Supervises staff during assigned shifts at The Timbers of Eureka.

Greets the public and answers questions, responds to inquiries from employees, customers and others and refers, when necessary, to appropriate staff. Exhibits enthusiasm for the department and for the job.

Provides cleaning and basic maintenance to the equipment and in all areas of the facility. Completes laundry as necessary.

Maintains strict confidence in all matters, works well with fellow staff members and treats all individuals with dignity and respect.

Provides great customer service by being friendly, tactful, courteous and by maintaining an alert and professional posture at all times. Maintains an acceptable appearance at all times as to both dress and personal hygiene.

Maintains a current knowledge of all of The Timbers membership, program/event and rental information. Provide current and accurate information regarding Parks and Recreation programs, classes and special events. Registers program participants, processes memberships and handles facility rental requests. Constantly updates oneself on new information and changes occurring throughout the facility. Utilizes recreation software to register participants for programs and facility rentals.

Operates the telephone using proper etiquette at all times.

Knowledgeable of emergency procedures. Takes charge in any emergency situation in a calm and professional manner.

Completes any necessary paperwork such as accident/incident reports and inventory.

Prevents accidents and allows for the enjoyment of all patrons through the fair and consistent enforcement of policies and rules governing the conduct of individuals using The Timbers.

Cooperatively works with other staff to ensure a professional and enjoyable work environment.

Arrives to work on time and when scheduled.

Performs other duties as requested or required.

Desired Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from a four (4) year college or university with a degree in Parks and Recreation, Sports Management, Marketing or closely related field, or two (2) years of experience performing comparable duties in an event production/marketing related position or field. A combination of relevant education and experience will also be given consideration.

Experience in customer service preferred.

Ability to supervise other part time staff members.

Ability to work a variety of shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Knowledge of and the ability to count money and make accurate changes.

Ability to understand, carry out and give oral and written instructions and follow posted schedules.

Ability to work with minimal daily supervision.

Ability to learn and follow City policies.

Knowledge of fitness equipment and general knowledge of exercise.

Ability to perform child and adult CPR and first aid.

Valid driver’s license.

The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position classification include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
