Position Summary:

Virginia is facing an opioid epidemic, and local organizations need your help to quickly and thoughtfully address this crisis. Take action by offering your time and talent as a Recovery Project Coordinator.

As a Recovery Project Coordinator, you’ll help organizations expand their services to more people who have been affected by substance use disorder. You will work with a team of professionals to support people in recovery by evaluating/creating internal programs, building external partner networks, creating training programs or developing recovery workforce pipelines.

We are currently recruiting for the 2023-24 program year with opportunities beginning in August, October or January. This is an AmeriCorps member position with Recovery Corps. You’ll join an amazing cohort of Recovery Project Coordinators from all backgrounds and experiences.

What to Expect:
  • Help organizations build capacity to address the opioid epidemic.
  • Coordinate and support a variety of projects, program development and outreach activities.
  • Receive recovery and skill-based training, professional development, and ongoing support from staff.
  • Gain valuable hands-on experience, build your professional network and launch your career while embedded at a local recovery organization.
  • Share your experience with the wider community as a Recovery Corps ambassador.
Perks Package:

While your organization benefits from your service, you’ll be rewarded with more than just a sense of satisfaction. Serve as a Project Coordinator and receive a scalable perks package based on your time commitment of 40 hours per week.

40 hours/week perks:

  • A stipend of $1,100 paid every 2 weeks
    • $25,300 total for 1,700 hours of service starting in August 2023
    • $20,900 total for 1,200 hours of service starting October 2023
    • $14,300 total for 900 hours of service starting January 2024
  • Up to $6,895 for tuition or student loans*
    • $6,895 total for members beginning their service in August 2023
    • $4,826 total for members beginning their service in October 2023
    • $3,447 total for members beginning their service in January 2024
  • Federal student loan forbearance and interest repayment
  • Individual health insurance — Monthly premium 100% covered
  • Child care assistance — Based on family size and income
  • The Segal AmeriCorps Education Award can be used to pay tuition or repay qualified student loans. Individuals 55+ at the start of their service term may gift their award to their child, grandchild, foster child or step-child.
What it Takes:

Our Project Coordinators come from all walks of life. The most important qualification is a passion to take action for your community – and meet the following minimum qualifications.

By the time they begin their service, our Project Coordinators are:

  • Dependable and have a history of good attendance
  • Able to understand and follow instructions
  • Able to set a pace and maintain a service schedule of 40 hours per week, depending on the agreed upon hours commitment
  • Directly or indirectly experienced with substance use disorders and have a strong desire to effect change across the addiction care continuum
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel), completing internet searches and navigating resources online, completing data entry, experience with using e-mail regularly, including sending attachments, comfort with database and software use, and experience with using videoconferencing software and attending training online
  • Fluent in English for speaking, reading, and writing English fluently
  • 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent
  • A citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States*
  • Able to successfully complete a background check
  • Position does not require a member to be in recovery from a substance use disorder, but those that self-identify as individuals in recovery must have one year of uninterrupted recovery by the start date.
  • Applicants who have received deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security are not eligible to serve as AmeriCorps members at this time.
