Pinnacle Polymers, LLC, a privately-owned polypropylene manufacturing facility, has an opening for a Railyard Operator.


Main responsibilities and key tasks


The Railyard Operator is responsible for maintaining the railyard and preparing railcars to be washed and loaded as well as for preparation for shipping to customers.


Additional responsibilities include:


  • Maintain the railyard through safe and proficient operation of the company locomotive/trackmobile
  • Move railcars to the correct staging areas based on production and shipping needs
  • Maintain all inventory control records and paperwork
  • Assist with the wash and load of rail cars
  • Inspects, washes and dries empty hopper cars
  • Assist with the loading of finished product into railcars, including tare weighing, operating loading slingers and gross weighing
  • Other tasks as assigned

Competencies and skills


  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5 years of relevant operations and railcar work experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience operating a locomotive and/or trackmobile
  • Must be willing and able to work a 12-hour rotating shift, including weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call as needed
  • Must be willing and able to serve as a member of the Emergency Response Team (ERT)
  • Must be willing and able to work at various elevations and positions including heights of 125 feet or above
  • Must be familiar with and be able to wear proper PPE including respirator and FRC
  • Must be willing and able to safely, effectively and efficiently carry out written and verbal job-related instructions, and adhere to all company policies and procedures
  • Must have working knowledge of personal computers utilizing Microsoft Office applications
  • Must possess knowledge of the chemical hazards of the process unit and all logic associated with the safe operation of equipment as dictated by the area of operation
  • Previous experience with SAP is preferred, but not required
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job which are: frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb stairs, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to hear sounds and recognize the difference between them, focus on one source of sound and ignore others, understand speech of another person, speak clearly so listeners can understand. Use of radio communications and hearing protection is required in process operation areas.
  • Must be able to safely perform the essential functions of the job without posing a direct threat to the safety of his or her own self, or the safety of others
  • Ability to work in the U.S. and successful completion of a pre-employment background check and screening
