Radiology Assistant, Per Diem

Job Summary

Responsibilities encompass transporting patients for the Radiology department, assisting Radiographers with patient transfers/examinations and CR exam completion. Assist with patient scheduling/image file maintenance when the patient schedule permits. Use the Meditech Radiology Module, Admissions Module and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital (SRH) PACS to accomplish most tasks. Use required external information systems for teleradiology purposes.

Key Responsibilities

• Patient transport is provided from the nursing units to the Radiology department adhering to safety standards and established schedule.
• Patient minimal personal needs are attended to while waiting for radiographic exams.
• Current contact precaution protocols are integrated into workflow.
• Patient transfer and positioning assistance for X-rays is provided to radiographers per established guidelines.
• Computerized radiology image processing assistance is provided per department standards.
• Imaging files are prepared for all patient referrals; and files updated according to hospital census.
• Imaging/copy requests are responded to and tracked in accordance with department policies.
• Clerical duties are completed per department guidelines including phone coverage and assisting with faxes and reports as needed.
• Additional department, organization, or network activities are completed per established objectives.

Additional Key Responsibilities for Senior Radiology Assistant

• Computerized Radiology (CR) image processing assistance is provided per department standards.
• Image copy requests are facilitated and attorney requests are logged in collaboration with the Medical Records Department.
• Work flow is optimized incorporating knowledge of Radiology and Admissions Meditech modules, external Information Systems, and department wide Radiology scheduling system.
• Patient scheduling is completed per established guidelines.
• Radiographer project work is assisted as assigned and meets established objectives.
• Assistance is provided for implementation/modification of processes for improved operations within the department

Qualifications and Experience

Education/Degree

Required

• High School Diploma/equivalent required.

Experience

Preferred

• Experience in a hospital setting as an orderly or aide preferred.

Skills (Specific learned activity gained through training (e.g. computer skills, keyboarding, presentation, CPR, ACLS, etc.)

Required

• Assess and interact with patients and families using the theories of human growth and development, family systems, and cultural background.
• CPR required.
• Computer proficiency required. Microsoft office applications preferred with ability to learn new software.
