ROLE SUMMARY
  • Provides expertise internally and externally in support of the Epidemiology product strategies in developing data driven strategies to uncover, understand or further contextualize information on the effectiveness as well as safety of our products
  • Leverages Real World Data effectively in support of the Regulatory lifecycle strategy across the portfolio
  • Provides direction and oversight of data and information strategy and analysis to support drug and vaccine lifecycle from an Epidemiologic perspective
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Major Responsibilities
Commensurate with experience and skills:
  • Strategically applies epidemiologic and statistical methods to address disease epidemiology and safety and benefit/risk issues
  • Provides expertise for decision making around the appropriate use of real-world data (RWD) and external RWD for natural history disease and safety/effectiveness questions
  • Provides specific scientific expertise and recommendations to support research questions from TA epidemiology strategy leads and clinical teams for use of RWD
  • Crafts analytic strategies in helping Epidemiologists and product teams to articulate their questions and map answers to specific data, (internal or external), as well as align the question and data to specific requirements
  • Advises on strategy and performs analysis of observational data to support publications, exploratory analyses and method development
  • Champions operational excellence to provide continuous improvement of processes and sharing of best practices
  • Interacts with other functions to apply assets and expertise and ensure timely availability of high quality data and analytic deliverables
  • Ensures appropriate process and documentation with respect to quality for inspection readiness
  • Subject Matter Expert in at least one but not exclusive to one of the following disciplines: Programming Solutions in Real World Data, Big Data, data mining, Safety surveillance
  • Is a knowledgeable contributor who is passionate about data interrogation, and possesses a strong vision of how epidemiological data science can create value and further cultivate a data driven culture across the company
  • Ensures accurate reporting, effective controls and continuous improvement of analytics capability to support Global Medical Epidemiology (GME)
  • Develops, adapts and applies novel efficient computational solutions for high performance programming of computationally expensive algorithms across large data sets
  • Decides on, assesses, implements and tests new methods for data mining and other epidemiological analyses as well as new statistical software designs and ensure accurate and appropriate execution of quality control processes across all group deliverables and its appropriate documentation including documentation of the programs and the process of producing tables, reports and analysis summaries
  • Works independently on multiple projects prioritizing according to Quantitative Epidemiology & Analytics (QEA) team and departmental needs ensuring alignment of common goals across the team and maintaining positive interactions in the team environment
  • Aligns with Epidemiology Strategy Leads and QEA team lead to set strategy for meeting department goals
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Masters, or advanced degree (PhD,) in statistics, computer science, data science or related field with demonstrable extensive focus on computer programming; preferred with 7 years (Master) or 1-2 years (PhD) demonstrable SAS programming in the pharmaceutical or other industry, academia, and/or regulatory agencies
  • Experience in the application of epidemiologic programming to large observational databases in the study the safety of medicines
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in relating to colleagues and associates both inside and outside the organization
  • Experience with effective independent handling of multiple projects
  • Proven experience in operational analysis, data analysis and problem resolution type activities
  • All Manager level capabilities plus
  • Strong strategic and decision making skills as well as technical skills, with the ability to collect, organize and analyze significant amounts of data with attention to detail and accuracy to translate effectively into information and knowledge
  • A capacity for translating ambiguous and competing business challenges into concise data-driven problems and solutions
  • Ability to articulate and explain data in writing or verbally to leaders and other stakeholders in a clear and concise manner
  • Strong problem solving and conceptual thinking abilities and intellectual curiosity to proactively uncover insights and trends within data
  • Extensive demonstrable experience in conducting highly detailed tasks with evidence of consistent capability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrable expertise in the use of SAS/SQL programming including statistical analysis procedures and expertise in SAS/Base, SAS/Stat, SAS/IML and SAS Macros and strong understanding of SAS/Graph and related software/hardware solutions for Big Data approaches to leverage of large longitudinal observational databases for effectiveness and safety analyses
  • Including database creation, data mapping, data analyses, and quality assurance all with appropriate documentation
  • Expert in the use of state of the art visualization techniques and tools to accurately and effectively communicate data driven findings and other Epidemiological outputs
  • Experienced in establishing and implementing appropriate quality control when designing programming solutions in a pharmaceutical company
  • Strong general computational skills with experience in several languages, software packages and applications such as: R, Oracle, Perl, S-plus, C#, Visual Basic, Python, Java, Prolog, Spotfire, Matlab, WinBugs, SPSS, Stata and SUDAAN
  • Work as an independent programming lead for studies and be able to provide technical advices to other analysts
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Industry experience in the processes associated with clinical drug development including comparative effectiveness research and safety surveillance
  • Experience in applying epidemiologic methods to study the safety of medicines
  • At least 7 years of experience of healthcare programming and knowledge of: Machine Learning, Python, C/C++, Linux, Java, NLP, Neural Networks, Deep Learning, Text Mining, Advanced Visualization techniques. Fluency in a modeling language such as Python, scientific computing libraries, Matlab, or R.
  • Knowledge of: Machine Learning, Epidemiology, Statistics, Building scalable learning algorithms, Development of deep learning algorithms, Text Mining, NLP techniques
  • 7+ years relevant experience in industry and creating models utilizing statistics and/or machine learning, designing and implementing own algorithms and data structures
  • A sound knowledge of working across international boundaries and cultures
  • Extensive experience using claims / health care data and/or public and private epidemiologic resources
  • Experience with medical terminology epidemiological research
  • Extensive experience with specialist visualization software

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $106,300.00 to $177,100.00. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus with a target of 15.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan, paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Salary range does not apply to the Tampa, FL location.
Relocation assistance may be available based on business needs and/or eligibility.
