Brief Role Description

The primary responsibility of the Quality Manager is to ensure the delivery of each individual customer’s expectations are met for all products and services provided by the facility. The Quality Manager must ensure that customer and product deliverables are known and defined, and internal processes and accountabilities are established that allow for these expectations to be consistently met. The Quality Manager must work cross-functionally with the local department managers to define quality related work and to build relationships that will drive the continuous improvement of our systems and processes. Most importantly, the Quality Manager must monitor the overall performance of the local quality system, provide visibility to system gaps and challenges, and be able to drive improvements with the management team through strategic actions.

Rehrig Pacific has seven locations strategically placed throughout the United States, with a Quality Manager (QM) at each location. Our Quality Managers are expected to work openly as a team to share best practices and drive improvement. Although the Quality Managers report directly to the Plant Manager, they will also work directly with Rehrig Pacific Company’s National Quality team members (Director of Quality and Corporate Quality Engineers) on specific project work and accountabilities.

Areas of Accountability

  • Manage and advance the Quality Management System.
    • Conduct a comprehensive review and gap analysis to understand the current processes and opportunities to improve.
    • Develop clear and easy to follow processes that drive consistency into our production.
    • Develop the needed alignment and accountability links within quality and other cross-functional teams.
    • Develop a robust quality review process with local management that surfaces and drives improvement opportunities.
    • Work collaboratively with the National Quality Team to develop and/or implement best practices and standards.
  • Manage internal & external quality Issues
    • Respond to internal issues and ensure that root cause is determined and corrective actions are implemented to drive desired results.
    • Ensure all external quality issues are well managed, and support our sales team and customers as needed.
    • Make efficient and sound business decisions on the deposition of non-conforming product.
    • Coordinate any necessary field work or rework.
  • Lead and develop the local quality team according to Rehrig’s core values
    • Ensure growth plan exists for each team member to advance their skills and our ability to better service our customers.
    • Administer quarterly and annual Key Accountability reviews with each team member.
    • Conduct thorough annual Performance Evaluations & Appraisals (PEAs) for each team member to assess capabilities and drive growth and/or change.
  • Improve quality metrics through strategic targets and actions.
    • Use data to understand and prioritize local quality issues, to track the effectiveness of strategic action items and to measure their impact on quality metrics over time.
    • With local Management, develop targets and actions to drive improvements.
    • Track and communicate progress via monthly and quarterly reports.
  • Support new product development projects launched within the facility to ensure customer expectations identified in the innovation process are protected after commercialization.
    • Ensure deliverables are understood, communicated and documented locally.
    • Work cross-functionally with New Product Development team members to validate product, processes, procedures and equipment.
    • Develop robust Quality Plans and accompanying documents and accountabilities that will create sustainable and consistent production.
    • Provide feedback to team members to drive improvements on current and future projects.
  • Ensure all finished goods meet customer and internally defined expectations
    • Monitor and audit in-process inspections using gage R&R and updating processes where necessary.
    • Ensure supplier quality by monitoring and, when necessary, developing new incoming inspections and utilizing the SCAR system when necessary.

General Responsibilities

  • With Management Team, advance local quality metrics.
  • Provide concise reporting to management on quality performance, issues and actions.
  • Manage local CAPA program.
  • Ensure local Quality Team is well managed and adds value to our products and processes.
  • Provide Quality support to our Sales Team and Customers as needed.
  • Manage quality related documentation and records (general production & compliance related).
  • Administer quality related training to the local operations team.
  • Maintain relationships with the Rehrig Pacific’s Quality Team, XF departments, Sales and Customers.
  • Manage Calibration and Pest Programs.
  • Manage and ensure proper and timely disposition on non-conforming products.
  • Audit quality related work and core processes for adherence and improvement purposes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in science or engineering preferred.
  • 5+ years of Quality Management Experience (ideally in plastic injection molding).
  • Direct experience in Plastic Injection Molding.
  • Ability to manage a team of 6-10 quality techs.
  • Direct experience with validation, problem solving, and risk tools and processes (examples: SPC, DMAIC, APQP, PPAP, FMEA, DOE, Flow Charting, Six Sigma).
  • Proven ability to develop and implement processes from ground up.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and experience with project management tools.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and departments.
  • Ability and willingness to travel locally and nationally less than 10% of the time.
