Job Summary

Performs Quality Assurance (QA) accessibility testing for software systems built and deployed by AITS, System Office units, as well as some campus units. Execute tests and compile reports to ensure accessibility standards are met for software applications in use by System Office.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work as a member of the Quality Assurance Team to perform manual and automated accessibility testing on enterprise-level software by analyzing, identifying, and reporting accessibility issues using an issue management tracking application or a reporting template. Automated testing is performed by using software to conduct accessibility tests (i.e., JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, ANDI, etc.).
  • Document accessibility issues or system problems encountered and provide reports on these problems to the project team, project leads, and management. Document procedures relevant to the quality assurance function including analysis, test case design, testing, and tracking issues. Communicate ideas, requirements, and application behavior, and recreate steps through written and verbal communications.
  • Carry out the appropriate procedures to ensure that all Information and Communications Technology (ICT) meet standards and end-user requirements and those systems operate properly and are free from accessibility issues. Create and execute work plans to meet deadlines and set priorities where appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with others in various situations where it is necessary to either receive or provide coaching and mentoring. Coordinate and encourage working relationships with peers and other appropriate University personnel to achieve defined goals & objectives. Participate in technical information-sharing opportunities with fellow team members. Work with a wide variety of clients, analysts, developers, and support personnel.
  • Keep abreast of relevant testing tools, procedures, technical specifications, and advancements in the field. Pursue professional development activities to expand knowledge and maintain currency in industry trends and practices. Participate in certification programs and meet annual certification goals.
  • Perform other related duties appropriate for a QA Engineer.

Minimum Qualifications

Two (2) years of work experience in IT‐related functions such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related field.

College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT systems, or a closely related discipline may be substituted as follows: 30 semester hours equals one (1) year, Associate’s Degree equals eighteen (18) months, 90 semester hours equals two (2) years, Bachelor’s Degree equals three (3) years.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information sciences, engineering, or experience with computer applications and systems.
Proficient with the Microsoft suite of applications.
Experience, expertise and skills in software testing processes and techniques.
Experience working in or a good understanding of an Agile development process.
Certifications from the International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP).
Knowledge of or experience with tools such as ReQtest Requirements and Testing application, or software utilized to conduct accessibility tests for Illinois Information Technology Accessibility Act (IITAA) compliance (i.e., JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, ANDI, etc.).

  • Knowledge of creating and implementing solutions to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
  • Knowledge of Accessible Rich Internet Applications (ARIA) standards and usage.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5031 - Information Technology Technical Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 5/15/2023. Salary is commensurate with experience.
