Purpose


Responsible for supporting corporate and mill teams in quality, food/product safety, regulatory compliance, and process improvement/optimization.

Key Activities


1. Quality


  • Lead in developing, implementing, and maintaining corporate and mill quality systems.
  • Drive standardization across all locations and creation of best practices.
  • Assist mill locations in developing and maintaining HACCP plans
  • Assist mill locations in preparing for 3rd party audits (Food Safety, GMP, or Customer).
  • Oversee corporate and support mill internal quality, food/product safety, and GMP audit programs.
  • Support sales and mill teams with customer issues, complaints, and help with root cause analysis and developing corrective action plans as needed.


2. Regulatory Compliance


  • Assist in evaluating raw materials (chemicals and pulp) for regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain product safety, chemical, fiber, supplier, and regulatory tracking systems.
  • Oversee/maintain the SafeTec SDS system
  • Oversee/maintain HuComply – task tracking system


3. Process improvement / optimization / support


  • Support mills in trending and analyzing paper quality parameters and make recommendations as necessary to maintain quality / product specifications.
  • Initiate or support specification and procedural changes to improve quality, minimize production raw material costs, and improve runnability.
  • Assist operations in troubleshooting problems, determining root causes, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Provide technical assistance and training to operations on programs used for quality or process data.
  • Help mill teams to implement and use software and data systems to improve operational efficiency through process centerlining, statistical process control, and control charting.


Minimum Qualifications (
technical/professional skills, expertise and qualifications)


  • Bachelor’s degree – preferably in Science/Chemistry, Engineering, or Pulp & Paper Science
  • 3-7 years quality assurance or food/product safety experience desired
  • Knowledge of SQF or other GFSI Food Safety certifications preferred
  • Auditing experience – as auditor or being audited
  • Knowledge of paper industry or food packaging experience preferred
  • Experienced in developing and writing procedures and training material
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel required
  • Strong communication skills
  • Capable of driving cultural change

  • Office environment
  • Frequent exposure to mill environment—hot, dusty, humid, noisy, working around moving equipment.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn in mill environment.
  • Up to 50% travel to mill, customer, or supplier locations.


  • Lifting up to 30 pounds
  • Climbing stairs and ladders, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling.
