Job Introduction

Radio 4’s broadcast a huge range of programmes and podcasts, listened to by millions in the UK, and this publicist promotes key factual and topical shows and documentaries to a wide audience. You’d be leading on publicity for many high profile radio programmes such as Woman's Hour, Start the Week, Front Row, Infinite Monkey Cage, Open Book and Any Questions. You’d also work on a wide range of series across topical subjects, politics, culture, science and natural history as well as arts and culture shows both on air and as podcasts, such as The Coming Storm, and Things Fell Apart by Jon Ronson. This is a great role for someone with a passion for audio and podcasts that shed light on the biggest stories of our time.

Main Responsibilities

Lead on publicity campaigns across media and digital platforms to promote priority shows and podcasts, working closely with programme makers, established and new presenters, and other talent to plan events and announcements, secure coverage and maximise publicity.

The publicist will be part of an out-of-hours on-call rota with colleagues.

Are you the right candidate?

Are you a fan of radio and podcasts? And have great ideas for how you’d spread the word about brilliant audio?

You’ll have a proven track record of running creative publicity campaigns to secure online, print and broadcast coverage.

You’ll have experience of creating and using content online and on social media, so you can find innovative ways to promote radio programmes and podcasts to a wide audience including reaching new listeners to Radio 4.

You'll have a good understanding of the news agenda and cycle, with experience of using that knowledge to quickly spot a potential story and identifying ways to generate coverage.

You'll have experience of identifying and effectively managing reputational issues, including providing sound communications advice to senior colleagues and using varied communications tools to defend and enhance reputation.

You'll value good story telling about the world we live in and are likely to listen to plenty of topical shows and podcasts.
