Job Summary
Under direction of the head of Public Works, this position performs the routine work involved in the construction and maintenance and repair of streets, storm sewers, and public facilities and is required to operate trucks and other maintenance and construction equipment. Job Responsibilities

Constructs and maintains catch basins, manholes, storm sewers, headwalls, curbs bituminous, macadam, pavement and stone pavements.
Performs work involved in seal coating sweeping streets, loading and unloading materials, such as sand, salts and plow streets during inclement weather (winter snow)
Does cold-patching: installs, paints and maintains street and road signs.
Involved in cutting brush and mowing grass, operates, checks services and makes minor repairs to truck tractor, road graders, compressors, pumps, grass cutters and other street and road equipment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Education: -
High School diploma (HSD) or GED plus experience in manual work and a proven level of dependability.
Skills & Abilities -
Work in various outside weather conditions, occasionally working near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
Attend required safety training sessions
Ability to read and follow written instruction, and write short reports.
Requirements -
At least one (1) year of experience in the construction/maintenance and repairs of streets, storm sewers, or public works facilities or similar heavy construction or maintenance work.
Must possess a valid New Jersey driver"s license.
Ability to obtain a New JerseyClass A CDL license by passing both the written and road test.
Some knowledge of the proper procedures used in making routine repairs to public works facilities and skillful use of tools and equipment.
Experience in manual work and a proven level of dependability.
Other duties as assigned.

Ability to work regularly scheduled and overtime hours
Ability to hear, speak, and understand conversation in English in various tones of voice, as well as accents or quickly spoken.
Use of senses which include sight, smell, hearing and touch as aids in the evaluation and troubleshooting of malfunctioning equipment.
Ability to see clearly, read, and comprehend letters, numbers, words, characters, or symbols, both large and small, as well as identify colors.
Ability to print and draw letters, numbers, words, characters, and symbols which are legible and understood.
Ability to use small hand tools which require the use of hands, wrists, and fingers.
Ability to walk, stand, and sit for periods longer than 30 minutes but not to exceed 8 hours consecutively.
Ability to stand in a stationary position for more than 30 minutes at a time and walk continuously for more than 10 minutes at a time throughout the working day.
Ability to lift, carry, push and pull items which weigh up to 50 pounds over uneven terrain, up/down stairs or ladders.
Ability to carry items for a distance which ranges from 10 feet to no more than 300 yards.
Ability to lift and/or carry items which are considered awkward to grasp or hold on to.
Ability to lift items weighing 1 to 30 pounds for a period less than 10 minutes, without putting the item down.
Ability to stay in a bending, kneeling, or squatting position for periods less than 10 minutes.
Ability to go from a standing or sitting position to a bending, kneeling, or squatting position, or vice versa, periodically.
Ability to move back and forth and sideways while in a bending, kneeling, or squatting position.
Ability to learn simple to complex tasks and remember how to complete tasks without assistance once trained.
Ability to operate motor vehicles (i.e. pickup trucks, van, tractors, etc.) and load or unload vehicles with objects
Ability to see and work at night in dimly lit conditions as necessary, during inclement weather.
Ability to work in undesirable conditions, including small enclosed or partially enclosed areas, dust, dirt, fumes, odors, noise, wetness and humidity..
Ability to work at levels higher than ten feet.
