Job description
The Public Health Educator Supervisor spends the majority of time in administrative management and supervisory functions, managing and directing all aspects of health education services within the Health Education Division. The Public Health Educator Supervisor's position’s responsibilities include recruitment, supervision, training, mentoring, coaching, ongoing evaluation and conflict resolution for Health Education Division staff; development, fidelity monitoring and evaluation of ongoing agency’s health education program implementation; fostering collaboration of the Health Education Division with other agency’s divisions and with community partners through the involvement of management staff and outside agencies, community leaders and groups, to effectively address public health challenges and health equity; budget preparation and management for the Health Education Division.
- Provide leadership in planning, organizing, and coordinating the agency's public health education services implemented both within the agency and in outreach within the community.
- Oversee health education programs that are evidence based, services and guidelines to meet the agency's strategic goals and the community's health needs.
- Conduct periodic comprehensive community health assessment with community partners to assess the health of the county.
- Foster the Health Education Division's collaboration with other agency's divisions and with outside community partners through the involvement of management staff, outside agencies, community leaders, and faith and community groups to effectively address public health challenges and address health equity.
- Assure health educators tailor their health education services to the community's and the specific audiences' needs.
- Prepare, monitor, justify and manage the Health Education Division budget and financial resources including setting budgetary priorities and making purchasing decisions.
- Collaborate with other Cumberland County Department of Public Health departments to expand the agency's services to patients, clients, and community.
- Write contractual and consultative agreements pertaining to health education services with community partner representatives (such as schools, universities, churches or hospitals) under the Health Director's directives.
- Represent the agency and the health education department on advisory boards, committees, coalitions, and task forces.
- Work with the PIO for the Department of Public Health to monitor, manage and post on social media platforms.
Degrees must be received from appropriately accredited universities.

- Proficiency in the principles and practices of public health and public health education.
- Proficiency in health education program planning, implementation, assessment, and evaluation.
- Considerable knowledge of methods and techniques of disseminating health education information to the public and to the media.
- Considerable knowledge of community health education resources and of community organizations.
- Heightened awareness of diversity among the community population and ability to work well and to establish good working relationships with people of different educational and socioeconomic background, individuals, and community groups.
- Ability to speak effectively in public or to the media, before various groups.
- Ability to apply, to explain and to convey state laws, regulations and rules pertaining to public health.
- Ability to organize and direct the activities of local committees for the development of local public health education programs.
