Job Purpose
The Avery and Liberatory Literacies Project Director supervises the work of all grant consultants and staff, collaborates with other College of Charleston Libraries staff, and works under the general supervision of the grant’s Co-Principal Investigators.

Minimum Requirements
ALA-accredited master’s degree in library or information science and minimum of three successful years and increasingly responsible experience in archives is required. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required:
o Academic training and experience in history (particularly a working knowledge of African American history and culture), education, arts management, historic preservation and planning, library/archival administration, political science, anthropology, sociology, communications, or other related fields.
o Experience with managing grants.
o Understanding and experience with current archival records management technology and tools, preferably ArchivesSpace.
o Demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging trends, issues, workflows, and best practices in archive, digitization, and museum management.
o Knowledge of archival principals and standards, including DACS and EAD, and the implementation of metadata schema.
o Evidence of effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred:
o Flexibility in adapting to changing departmental and organizational priorities and to ever-changing technological environments.
o Demonstrated ability to foster teamwork and collaborate with staff at all levels
o Evidence of strong planning and organizational skills.
o Ability to multi-task and work with diverse populations such as students, scholars, genealogists, the public, etc.

Job Duties

Activity
Archival Management:
o Oversee the processing of institutional and manuscript archival collections.
o Process archival collections.
o Manage the digitization process for internal and outsourced projects.
o Oversee the timely creation of access points for collections, including the creation of MARC and EAD records in ArchivesSpace, the College of Charleston’s library catalog, and the uploading of oral history interviews to the Aviary platform.

o Oversees hiring of and review of project staff.
o Manage the financial and administrative aspects of the grant to ensure compliance.
o Coordinate logistics and record minutes/notes for all project meetings.
o Assist in writing final report documenting all grant outcomes, deliverables, and activities.
o Draft bimonthly updates to the manager of archival services and executive director.

Outreach and Public Programming:
o Coordinate marketing, outreach, and public programming activities.
o Develop and host in-person and virtual programming.
o Communicate research and Center initiatives via publications and digital exhibitions.
o Document and disseminate information about projects via conferences and other professional learning communities when opportunities arise.
o Oversee the selection of materials for use in physical (in-house) and digital exhibitions, the South Carolina Black History Bugle, and the selection of materials for the marketing team with creating promotional materials.
