Project Control Officer
Cheltenham
Salary: £30,831 plus the opportunity to qualify for individual retention payments per annum

We’re GCHQ, a world-leading intelligence, cyber and security agency. Our mission? To unlock the complex world of communications and keep the UK safe. Working closely with our partners in the intelligence community, we protect the nation’s people, interests and businesses from threats including serious and organised crime, terrorism, and cyber-attacks.

As a Project Control Officer, you’ll be at the heart of the Programme Management Office (PMO), working closely with a range of teams to deliver unique projects. It means you’ll be responsible for bringing structure to the delivery of transformational projects, including planning, budget and resource management. Plus, with relevant training, you’ll role will be to support delivery, embed effective ways of working and apply appropriate governance and assurance. And, with a ‘can do’ attitude, you’ll embrace and drive forward knowledge sharing, always looking for better ways of working.

You’re adaptable, motivated and collaborative. You’ve got a penchant for problem solving, so you’ll be great at creating, updating, reporting and providing guidance on a variety of outcomes from our PMO service menu. This includes everything from finance and planning, to risk management and corporate reporting. Everything you do will be about supporting us to keep the UK safe.

We manage really unique and interesting projects, so we don’t expect you to know everything from day one. You’ll need a minimum of 2 GCSEs at Grade 4/C in Mathematics and English Language, (or equivalent Level 2 qualification). Experience using Microsoft Office is necessary, particularly MS Excel, but you don’t need to come from a Project Control Officer background for this role to be right for you. We’ll give you lots of tailored training, coaching and mentoring, developing you both professionally and personally. We’re looking for someone who’ll thrive in our multi-team environment and be able to persuade people at all levels. And you’ll be comfortable with numbers, data and technology. Plus, you have excellent attention to detail.

In return, you’ll enjoy benefits including 25 days’ annual leave (plus 10.5 days of public and privilege holidays), as well as on-site facilities including a subsided gym and restaurant, and much more. Finally, there’s the fact that you’ll enjoy plenty of purposeful challenges and unique projects you just won’t find anywhere else.
