Urban Sprouts is a food-justice non-profit that operates four gardens and a flagship one-acre urban farm; participates in a weekly farmer’s market; runs job-readiness programs; and teaches community-based cooking and nutrition workshops in San Francisco, primarily in the Excelsior, Mission, Visitacion Valley, and Mission Bay.

Responsibilities

• Support Program Managers in maintaining Urban Sprouts’ sites
• Participate in experiential farming activities

focused on technical skills and food justice

• Support Program Managers during on-site programming and at weekly seasonal farmer’s market
• Participate in financial capacity and professional development training

Desired Skills and Experience

• A strong interest in food systems, including social/environmental justice, urban farming, and entrepreneurship
• Ability to work collaboratively and independently with a positive attitude
• Willingness to learn, ask questions, and be creative

Candidates must be a San Francisco resident between the ages of 18-24. All candidates must have a social security number or tax identification number with work authorization. Candidates must be comfortable being on-site and performing physical tasks for this role, including but not limited to; shoveling soil, pushing a wheelbarrow, and/or hauling debris.

Work Schedule: Program Assistants are temporary, part-time staff who will work an average of 15 hours a week, for a maximum of 432 hours. Work hours may be reduced during programming breaks. Work will be completed mainly on-site at our gardens in southeast San Francisco and/or at Mission Community Market. Evening and weekends may be required.
