The City of Springfield is actively seeking a Professional Engineer (option to underfill as an Engineer III) for our Water Quality Management and Protection Division in the Environmental Services Department. The primary focus of this role could include.
  • Lead a team of GIS and data analysis professionals in collection system assessment, performance, and asset management;
  • Update and utilize the sanitary sewer hydraulic model;
  • Perform capital planning and rehabilitation improvement analysis;
  • Manage infrastructure planning and improvement projects with design consultants.
The ideal candidate will seek innovative solutions and have a technical background in hydraulic modeling software, data analytics software, and water resources or wastewater engineering.

About the Department of Environmental Services

Environmental Services is responsible for protecting the quality of the water resources in and around Springfield. Environmental Services manages over 1,200 miles of sanitary sewer infrastructure, two award winning wastewater treatment plants, water quality compliance with the City’s municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4), and the regional municipal landfill. In 2021, Springfield was highlighted as 1 of 13 municipalities in an EPA report to Congress with an implemented Integrated Plan for the Environment. Qualifications and Requirements

Experience, Education, and Training

Professional Engineer
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in an Engineering discipline;
AND
  • Four years of experience in engineering work.
  • Engineering experience must be commensurate with assigned specialty area required for current vacancy.
Engineer III (Underfill option):
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in an Engineering discipline;
AND
  • Three years progressively responsible engineering experience;
  • Must possess an Engineering Intern (EI) certificate from a State Board of registration for Professional Engineers within probationary period;
  • Master's Degree in Engineering may be substituted for the EI certification.
Licensing/Certification
  • Must possess a Professional Engineer's license;
  • Must possess MO license as issued by the Missouri State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers within six months of employment.
