Production Supervisor

General Summary:


Supervises and monitors various processes of the Paulsboro Plant to ensure that all production standards are met and maintained. Oversees the performance of the production and maintenance employees and other employees involved with various production related functions. Oversees and ensures compliance with the company and facility’s safety and environmental programs. Responds to production and maintenance issues. Enforces and maintains Bostik’s Employee Handbook guidelines. Trains and assists other sites and employees as required.


Principle Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Assists in the selection, training, coordination and assignment/re-assignment of employees to maximize the effectiveness of personnel in providing production support services to the facility. This includes performing production duties when required.


  • Maintains a pro-active, cooperative, union-free environment through effective communication and strong interpersonal skills as well as an environment of non-discrimination. Supports, through actions and words, BOSTIK’s Equal Employment and Sexual Harassment Policies.


  • Maintains a safe work environment ensuring that all plant policies and practices are adhered to. Maintains an acceptable level of housekeeping in all areas of responsibility. Fully supports Bostik's goal of zero workplace safety incidents and supports and participates in Bostik's EHS Programs.


  • Maintain the plant’s and departmental budget goals and objectives through reduction of non-value added activities and increasing efficiencies of current process. Assists the plant in implementing and maintaining a continuous quality improvement program.


  • Implements appropriate procedures and processes that ensure all products and personnel meet established specifications and standards.


  • Works with QC on non-compliant material and issues corrective actions to regrind/rework/dispose of or ship products; including re-work work-off rates for rejected product.


  • Maintains production paperwork and utilizes Bostik’s business system to enter and generate manufacturing data as needed.


  • Serves as the technical interface with QC and plant management to address manufacturing procedures, test procedures, specifications, production processes, data, and other issues as requested.


  • Serves as communication link between Production Department with plant management staff on any developments and/or problems with products, procedures, and personnel; assists in developing a solution.


  • Provides leadership, guidance, and developmental direction to employees through periodic performance review, departmental meetings, training coordination and other activities deemed appropriate.


  • Maintains a strong working relationship with all direct reports, internal and external customers to minimize issues and collectively address problems. Works to continually improve quality in all processes.


  • Supports and works with engineering on process improvements and new equipment installations.


Other Duties:


  • Actively participates on various committees/teams to improve processes.


  • Provides supervisory support to plant operations areas as needed.


  • Conducts various inspections / audits to ensure compliance with company and plant rules and regulations.


  • Operates equipment as required / needed.


Reporting Relationships:


Reports to the Production Manager / Plant Manager


Has direct reports, as well as potential other BOSTIK employees on special assignment and/or temporary employees.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:


  • Supervisory skills/Leadership skills –must be able to utilize a variety of management techniques to effectively motivate, guide and direct all reports as well as demonstrate attributes associated with effective leadership. Must utilize resources/remove obstacles to assist others in day-to-day operations so that focus can be on longer term planning. Must be capable of developing performance base standards. These standards are to be used in making present and future business decisions. This position will require performance base feedback reviews of direct reports. All reviews will be documented and contain real examples. Must be a driver of change to improve processes on all fronts.


  • Knowledge - must have understanding/experience of Bostik products and processes. Understanding of quality control processes, procedures and terminology; must be able to adjust processes as needed. Basic knowledge of plant policies and practices to include all safety rules and regulations. Knowledge of various environmental regulations and requirements to ensure compliance with various local, state and federal laws.


  • Logical Reasoning - must use sound, logical reasoning in his/her decision making process; must recognize when to go to a higher level and/or “go outside the routine system” to meet a customer’s expectation; must not jeopardize safety or quality to accomplish a task.


  • Problem Solving - must utilize resources (internal and external) in developing achievable solutions to issues/non-compliance’s that arise; must be able to address day-to-day issues in an effective manner; must utilize data in developing long-term solutions.


  • Planning/Organizing - must be able to utilize his/her direct reports in the most efficient manner; must be able to adapt plans when unforeseen events occur (employee out sick, called into an unscheduled meeting,...); must assist in the development and implementation of longer term plans for department.


  • Follow-up skills - must be able to take tasks to completion as well as responding to items not completed by others.


  • Decision-making - employee will be involved in decisions that directly impact our ability to meet customers’ expectations. These decisions could result in the loss/maintaining/winning of business as well as have significant other financial implications (shipping “bad” product and having to have it returned), result in / prevent potential litigation against the company, and impact a variety of other areas. Incumbent has the power to make decisions that will directly impact safety, quality, service, cost and employee relations.


  • Technical &/or Computer skills - must have working knowledge of all equipment utilized in manufacturing processes. Must be proficient in basic computer systems, software applications, and Bostik’s business system.


  • Interpersonal skills - must be able to work with a wide range of personalities and backgrounds; must build rapport with all direct reports; must work effectively with other departments within facility as well as management, and other BOSTIK facilities and vendors. Must be able to address issues effectively and in a non-threatening manner while still ensuring that employees make necessary changes.


  • Communication skills - must communicate effectively in both oral and written forms. Must be comfortable to present information to groups.


  • Business knowledge - must have understanding how his/her actions/decisions impact various aspects of our business (customer service, budget, ...). Must continue to grow knowledge of business in general as well as BOSTIK related business factors. Must have an understanding of BOSTIK’s continuous quality improvement program.


  • Ownership of Actions: employee must understand and take ownership for his/her actions or lack of actions. Must look beyond “my job” and take what ever actions are necessary to assist the plant in operating in a manner that focuses on cost, quality, safety, service and the betterment / well-being of all employees and customers.


  • College degree or High School diploma


  • Ability to read and write English.


  • Demonstrated computer skills (Microsoft, SAP).


  • Forklift operation experience preferred


  • 1 -3 years in a manufacturing environment – preferred

  • Shift work: Must be flexible to provide coverage / evaluate performance for all shifts.
  • Weekend work: Must be flexible to provide coverage to all shifts; weekend work, training and travel required as needed.
