Position Purpose:
Maintain the incineration unit within permitted operating envelopes by providing waste feed streams. Maintain inventory control and incineration feed as per plan of all incoming waste. Coordinate work with the operations and maintenance department. Supervise the department personnel. Coordinate the feed rate and the selection of the fuel type with the respective calorific value. Determines cost of materials versus labor and provides technical expertise on incineration modifications, etc. Assist immediate supervisor in the annual preparation and reviews targeted goals versus forecasted budget allowances as well as conducting special exploratory assignments as directed by management.

Primary Duties/responsibilities:

  • Maximize unit throughput within established operating envelopes(OE) and permit established parameters
  • Direct all drum operators as needed to maintain optimal unit performance and maximum throughput
  • Coordinate with Other department managers and unit operators to set feed priorities and determine the priority of feed streams
  • Maintains safe working conditions: identifies and corrects or reports unsafe work areas.
  • Performs assignments in compliance with published Company operating and safety policies and procedures.
  • Oversees and manages the training of direct reports to ensure compliance with published Company operating and safety policies and procedures.
  • Supervises department safety program and assures personnel are complying with safety requirements.
  • Assure compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Supervises day-to-day operations of the drum processes.
  • Provides for adequate maintenance to all equipment.
  • Frequently assesses the condition of the plants and plans needed improvements. Prepares recommendations of a five year plan for Production.
  • Tracks plant activities and trends in order to improve plant efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Oversees and manages hazardous waste reporting requirements and disposal procedures.
  • Work with EHS Manager to assure plant operations meet OSHA, MOSH, EPA, and MDE regulatory requirements.
  • Corresponds with contractors, government agencies, vendors, OSHA/MOSH, and personnel from other utilities.
  • Makes recommendations to upper management concerning hiring and terminations.
  • Instructs and advises individuals on work related problems. Within the authority established in the Employees Policy and Procedures Manual, prepares performance appraisals and disciplinary actions, as appropriate.
  • Provides recommendations for the department training programs.
  • Prepares, submits for approval, and administers department budgets.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director, Operations or Vice President Operations.

Qualifications


Education / Experience / Background:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent plant operating experience.
  • Ten years experience in operating, maintaining, supervising, and managing stationary or marine boiler operations.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Thorough understanding of the principles, management, and regulatory requirements for overseeing operations involving water management quality, outfall controls, fuel systems, asbestos controls, metering, and personnel management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency of various software
  • Demonstrated ability to compose and write technical reports and recommendations.

Required Certification / Licenses / Training:

  • Valid driver's license and insurable by Company's vehicle insurance carrier.
  • 40 hours hazwoper tt have or to complete by company training
