Job Description
The Product Owner, Software Architecture is responsible for software product development for a complex core Rockwell Automation control system product. The core product line might involve Programmable Automation, Control, and Communications.

In this position, you will design and technically lead the team to develop new features, participating in the full development lifecycle for portions of a very large and complex system that is developed across multiple campus locations. Development is performed in an agile team environment utilizing sound engineering and software development practices and technology, and typically involves highly complex system design or product architecture design. Responsibilities include collaborating with and influencing multiple cross-functional teams, as well as technical leadership of a development team.
Essential Functions:
  • Contributes to or develops architectural designs and independently develops complex system designs that meet the requirements. Provides time estimation for the design. Considers tradeoffs between requirements, speed, cost and reliability in the choice of a design approach.
  • Does advance work, including requirements, on a feature before a development team is to start.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills needed. Clearly communicates and conveys design concepts, both verbally and written. Also able to learn and understand complex control system concepts.
  • Leads or participates in reviews of documents, designs, code, test cases and user documentation.
  • Typically responsible for the ongoing maintenance and integrity of several software subsystems comprising an architectural layer of the software.
  • Effectively teams with others through mutually supportive professional relationships, open and direct communications, honesty and respect. Able to cope with and leverage stylistic differences and differences of opinion.
  • Owns and manages the (agile team) backlog
    • Defines sprints by working with the agile team to ensure the sprint plan supports the scope, prioritization, and content.
    • Defines acceptance criteria and accepts users stories into the baseline
  • Participates in sprint demos, retrospectives and mid-sprint planning
  • Establishes the sequence of the (agile team) backlog based on program priorities, events and dependencies with other (agile) teams
  • Participates in the Agile team DSU
  • Always have at least three sprints worth of user stories ready and high level acceptance criteria
  • Works consistently with other Product Owners and Product Management team
  • Plays a key role in multi-sprint release planning
  • Demonstrates confidence and maintains a positive demeanor during periods of uncertainty, pressure and conflict.
  • Initiates and fosters collaboration, communication and team building.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications:
  • BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or Electrical Engineering
  • Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of experience in a software product development environment
  • Proven application of C++.
  • Understanding of multiple current web technologies.
  • Agile software development using Scrum/SAFe
  • Demonstrated experience architecting modular software
  • Previous technical team leadership
  • Proven application of a set of the following: C++ (or other relevant programming languages); data structures and algorithms; object-oriented designs; COM, MFC, WPF, .NET, or equivalent technologies.
  • Understanding of application security requirements and best practices.
