Position Summary:

As a Process Engineer you will be responsible for process documentation and improvement, troubleshooting, and equipment upgrades. You will work closely with Marketing, Manufacturing and R&D for scale-up of new products, improvement of existing processes, and the development of process designs for expanded manufacturing capability.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Be passionate about continuous improvement.
  • Design, develop scope of work, and write business cases to justify capital expenditures for approval.
  • Function as Team Leader to implement small capital projects within the plant.
  • Identify and execute a variety of process improvement activities and assist production by helping with short term equipment problems or quality improvement efforts.
  • Develop and review procedures for equipment to ensure correct and consistent operation.
  • Work directly with the R&D staff to scale up production and provide engineering support during the implementation of new products.
  • Develop Process Flow Diagram’s (PFD’s) and Piping & Instrument Diagram’s (P&ID’s) for new and existing processes.
  • Incorporate Risk Management and Process Safety Management (PSM) in all designs and process improvements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Very little domestic travel may be required.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, required. Chemical Engineering, strongly preferred.
  • 1+ years’ experience working in process manufacturing, is required. (Preferably chemical)
  • Experience with batch processing is highly desirable. Experience with continuous processing is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and technical background with chemical unit operations; particularly heat transfer, distillation, fluid dynamics and process control, required.
  • Demonstrated excellent safe work behaviors, required.
  • Six Sigma and/or Lean Manufacturing experience is preferred. Green Belt or Black Belt certification would be a plus.


Personal Characteristics:

  • Understanding of the fundamentals of Chemical Engineering.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute, manage, and/or develop projects effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute against production plans to meet output requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products – intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel.
  • Ability to identify, prioritize and execute process improvements according to value, cost and risk with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of employees to plan, organize and complete multiple projects from inception to commissioning.
  • Comfortable functioning in a variety of roles ranging from plant floor troubleshooting and problem solving, to leading long term process improvement projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must.
  • Must have a proven track record of working in a team environment.
