The Mission of the Idaho Department of Correction is to create a model correctional system that provides equitable access to programming and opportunities that reflect a community experience, foster connections, and restore victims of crime.
The Idaho Department of Correction currently has a vacancy for a Probation and Parole Specialist at District 6 Probation and Parole Office located in Pocatello, Idaho. The incumbent is responsible for assisting probation and parole officers to make complex decisions regarding the care and supervision of individuals under the supervision of probation and parole in Idaho.

Hiring lists may be created from open competitive, IDOC Department Promotional, or Statewide promotional applicants. Example of Duties

  • Perform diverse support functions to probation and parole officers
  • Daily interactions with individuals on felony supervision in order to address behavior
  • Provide guidance, referrals, and general assistance to individuals under IDOC community supervision
  • Frequent contact with internal and external customers, which requires good public relation skills
  • Function with some independence and exercise discretion in applying policies and procedures

Minimum Qualifications

This position requires work experience in each of the following:

  • Monitoring record systems to identify and correct errors
  • Interpreting, explaining, and applying laws, regulations, and complex policies for multiple or highly specialized programs
  • Analyzing information and researching a variety of sources to identify and resolve problems or issues
  • Dealing with individuals from varying cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds in stressful situations
  • Entering and retrieving data using a computerized record system
  • Experience composing and proofreading business correspondence
Specialty Qualifications:
  • Experience conducting sensitive fact-finding interviews
  • retrieving and compiling information in a report format using database software
  • Experience working the correctional health care environment and associate principles and practices

  • Some knowledge of the criminal justice system
  • Some knowledge of brokering services on behalf of clients
  • Some knowledge of the fundamentals of behavioral science
HIRING INFORMATION:
To be hired, candidates will have a history and background supportive of department mission goals and will be subject to:
  • Completing a Background Investigation Questionnaire and pre-employment drug testing
  • Having a federal and state criminal background check to include fingerprints
  • Having a history of law-abiding behavior
  • Felonies, misdemeanors, illegal drug usage, DUI's, adverse driving convictions and employment history may make you ineligible for employment
Non-hiring restrictions are in place for candidates who:
  • Have been convicted of Domestic Violence or similar types of violent behaviors
  • Have a dishonorable discharge from military service
  • Currently are using, dealing or are associated with illegal drugs
  • Have close friends or relatives under IDOC care & custody where the vacancy exists
  • Are currently under IDOC supervision or probation (must be released from IDOC supervision or probation for at least one year)
