We are looking for a Principal Technical Program Manager with deep technical and business expertise, extraordinary leadership and demonstrated large-scale program management success. You should have exceptional construction industry knowledge, technical depth in the execution and delivery of Data Centers and have the executive presence to lead complex and time sensitive initiatives.

In this role, the successful candidate will partner closely with key engineering leaders to drive programs focused on transforming how we deliver data centers to our customers. These programs will be on the leading edge of innovation and will include driving pilots and other experiments that shape ongoing strategy in delivering Data Centers efficiently and on schedule. You balance analytical and technical skills with the ability to influence decision makers within the CO+I leadership and execution teams spread across the rest of Azure. You will also partner very closely with related teams including our design engineering, construction, networking, and data center project management teams.


Responsibilities

  • Identifies highly complex opportunities and gaps in Data Center delivery amongst multiple areas (e.g., construction, electrical, energy) across region including comparison of various quality and performance metrics to various solutions. May define and lead stakeholder engagements to solicit feedback and understand their experiences with Microsoft’s network infrastructure services. Acts as a subject matter technical expert (SME) in mechanical/electrical systems, structures, and networking infrastructure to facilitate engineering problem solving solutions. Perform highly complex research in collaboration with other teams, conducting competitive analyses, and examining technology-related industry trends, as well as industry-specific requirements or regulations.
  • Demonstrates and builds experiences across multiple groups or divisions: Land & Development, Project Construction Management, Site Acquisition, and various program leaders.
  • Establishes clarity of patterns of root problem and how it relates with previously seen trends across builds; determines the sectors impacted and uses research evidence to influence change. Determines and leads large process improvements to quickly scope insights. Leads and drives alignment between the internal stakeholders, senior leadership, and the goals and strategy of Microsoft.
  • Manage a portfolio of Data Center programs from initiation through execution, enhancing business value across different program delivery dimensions.
  • Leverage technical acumen in mechanical/electrical systems, structures, and networking infrastructure to facilitate engineering problem solving.
  • Differentiate Microsoft Data Center delivery to create a competitive advantage by applying ‘Best in Class’ project and program management expertise.
  • Drive business results through a regimented focus on key performance indicators and business goals, promoting clarity and motivation to the project team to execute on time, under budget, while delivering high quality results with zero rework.
  • Apply world-class technical and competitive ecosystem knowledge to respond to competitive challenges in data center delivery.
  • Use experience and expertise to improve design templates and process.
  • Design and implement reporting by interfacing business, engineering, finance, operations, and systems teams to provide actionable insights.
  • Deliver on ambiguous projects with multiple stakeholders, unclear requirements, and incomplete data.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, project management, program management, or construction management.
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
Preferred Qualifications
  • MBA or advanced degree AND 5-8+ years experience in engineering, project/technical program management, construction management
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • Demonstrates deep subject matter expertise on key functional areas of mechanical, electrical, networking, construction, or building automation systems.
  • Demonstrates technical excellence in learning and applying successful strategies and implementing improvements to engineering methods/ quality practices across the Data Center Delivery Portfolio.
  • Proficient program and project management skills.
  • Understanding of contract verbiage.
  • Experience driving execution with hyper-scale cloud engineering groups preferred.
  • Technical program management experience managing scope, schedule, budget, quality, people, risk, and communications.
  • Demonstrably clear leadership skills and experience working with large, diverse teams.
  • Understanding of business and financial objectives and plans accordingly.
  • Proven track record of coaching teams and mentoring others in planning, organizing, and coordinating their work.
Technical Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
